I just got my cat back from the vet and she had the same type of stitches. The vet said there was no need to come back unless I noticed swelling around the area of the incision. Also, for any future surgeries, many vets now offer (for a nominal fee) laser cauterization of the incision, which reduces the risk of infection and speeds recovery time.

I'd call the vet & see. I know my cat had dissolvable stitches. But my dog (a big golden retreiver) had wire instead of stitches because she might rip out the regular stitches. She got an infection too & had to be on antibiotics because she was to active. But after 2 weeks, they took out the wire & no problems. I think if you needed to come back they should have set that appt. up w/ you before you left????? Definately call...

=Our 3 lil boys have been neutered over the past 3 years and one a couple of weeks ago. I had asked him about coming back and having any sutures removed and told me that the latest, safest, and most comfortable way for the pet is to use a type of glue that works much better than stitches because there is much less of a chance for infection. Thank you for being a responsible pet owner. I would call your vet at your first opportunity just to be sure.

It sounds like the stitches are absorbable if they are under the skin. Most vets nowadays are going to the absorbable kind, especially in cats. I would call your vet just to be sure though. He/she might just have forgotten to tell you, and since they didn't set you up with a suture removal appt I would assume absorbable. They should start to absorb in about a week or so from the surgery.

The stitches are dissolvable, although I'd recommend still keeping her quiet until at least next week. Just because you can't see the stitches doesn't mean that they couldn't pull out or rip open the incision. Good luck.

Yes they should be dissolvable. The vet probably didn't mention it on accident. Just keep an eye on the incision to make sure it doesn't get infected. If you are still concerned call the vet.

most vets I know, use dissolvable stiches INSIDE the dog, and stitches that need to be REMOVED on the outside. I would call the vet and verify what was used on your dog. If they need to be removed...they usually stay in for a bout 2 weeks.
