im pulling my son out of daycare real soon. I don't know what to do to say our last good-byes. I got along real well with his daycare teacher and he's made some real good friends and i feel bad about pulling him out, but it's a must..any suggestions?

You don't say how old your son is... and this answer would really depend on his age and how long he has been at the daycare...

If you have time before you are leaving, it would be nice to let the other children in the daycare that he is going so that he has support and good wishes from his friends before he goes.. ie. .. from my experience (and we have moved often!) friends will usually spend some time making them a good bye card, you can always ask the day care if they will do this (and if they are good one they will already be planning this)... for the last day, take a good bye cake (ideally squarish so that it can be cut up easily or cup cakes for each child)..make sure that the daycare knows that you are bringing this so that they can "gee" the kids up for this... kids after all love a party whether its good bye or birthday...

Make sure you do something to recognise his time there... not only for your son but also for the other kids who will probably miss him...

If you think a special something is needed for one of his teachers then perhaps a little present that you think she would like (ie. keyring etc) and give to her privately so that its special and doesn't put the other teachers out....

Finally.. after the last day, maybe you can do something special with him afterwards that he remembers more affectionately and doesn't make him think too much about the leaving... like ten pin bowling, swimming, something to take his mind off it..

Good luck!!

I used to work in daycare, and these can really be sad occasions. At the least, I would recommend a nice thank-you card/letter for the teacher. Let your son personalize it with a picture, handprint, etc., so she will remember him. Maybe a small gift would be nice, too. He could also make cards for the other kids.

Offer a gift of some kind, as a thank you, which will also serve as a farewell gesture--maybe something that would benefit everyone in the school (like teachers and the students).

Donate a book or school supply to the class. I am sure that he will love bringing it in and most teachers appreciate those kinds of gifts.

Don't sweat it and don't make a big deal out of it, the more fuss you make the harder it will be for your little guy. Just say goodbye at the end of his last day and let that be it. Don't upset him over something he will forget in a week.

Just take in cookies for snack time and say good-bye.

My kids made their sitter a huge card that they signed themselves & they chose a small jewellery box & I put a pair of earrings in it to say Thanks.
