My friend is getting married, I'm asking the questions for her. The colors were going to be ivory and blue. I was thinking about little fish bowls, like you can get from the dollar tree, decorate them pretty, (colored glass rocks, ribbon around the rim, etc.) and having a blue beta fish in each bowl, but we were wondering about other options as well.

It will be small, so won't need that many fish. I guess whoever wants one can have one. If there is any leftover, my husband and children love fish, so they can take care of them, or maybe we can give fish to the elementary school? Maybe some of the teachers would like to have one for their class? Or donate them to a dentist? They say that watching fish calms people's nerves, so they could be useful for dental patients to watch! Or in a doctor's office. But there probably isn't going to be that many left anyway.

My brother in law did a square clear plastic stand about 18 inches high, with a floral piece on top.
But inside the plastic stand were goldfish swimming around! It was actually kind of cool.

This is a good question, I'm kinda in the same boat. Getting married next year and dont want the same old flowers and candles either. My fiance and I are discussing using those place card holders, we like the small bells that have a wire coming up from the base to hold the card, and putting wallet size pictures of us with a short verse or thank you for attending our wedding message on the back along with the date of our wedding. We were thinking just using random pics of us through the whole time we've been dating. Maybe still do some kind of candle or ribons & glitter at the center of the table, but put these in a kind of circle around that so our guests can take them if they want to and we dont have to worry about clean up. Just an idea, but there are lots of great answers to think about already that I've been reading and thinking about :)
Good Luck

I love the birdcage idea. You could put little fake blue birds inside too and wind lights on the outside. Many people have a metallic color to go with their wedding colors. It sounds like silver would go best with those colors. If you can't find silver birdcages, spray paint them silver. Really easy to do.
Or, you could put quotes about love in a picture frame in the middle of the table. It would be a good conversation piece if the quotes aren't the usual ones. Pictures of the bride and groom growing up through the years would be another cute one that would get people talking. Or, maybe have a different theme on each table. Like for every city the couple has visited or for different activities or movies they enjoy.

1) Pictures of the bride and groom growing up. Put them on top of the table cloth and then put a clear vinyl covering over them.
2) Use glitter or cut-outs of bridal items.
3) Collect twigs and small stones. Spray paint the twigs colors to match the wedding theme. Add glitter to them. Get a small terra cotta type saucer and place the painter twigs and stones in the saucer (paint the stones if you like)

Last month my son got married and we put the fish bowls with rocks and fish and it was a hit. they sprinkled confetti around the outside and just put a small candle too. For favors each seat had a photo of the married couple in a small frame.

take pictures of the couple from when they first met up until the wedding and put 2 on each table so everybody has a different one. You can get plastic frames from the dollar tree that are clear and make the pictures 3X5 so they don't take over the whole table.

I hate the flower candles thing too..

what I did for each table was set a different type of mini tier caked...the cake was the cerpiece...its cheaper and you don't have this massive wedding cake.

I don't like giant wedding cakes either.. At the head table you should have one as well and that one..have the birde and groom trinket on top.

This is a good idea for families who have alot of diabetics too.like my hubbies family...i sware every person is..this way you can make sugar free cakes at their tables and they know they are just for them when you are doing the seating arrangement.

We are using a centerpiece made from kissing wands which will also serve as favors for the guests. They add a little height to the table are unique as well. For more info or pics go to www.customweddingsolutions.com and check out their REAL WEDDINGS page or look under favor for kissing wands.

You can get flat rocks at a craft store, put them in a bowl with paint pens and have guests sign them!
I've also seen where people have made photo trees. Those are cool too!

I used small gold birdcages
I filled them with lights, cystal garland, feathers and other decorative items
All of the cages were alike, but the items inside were different
They all carried out the color scheme
People said they were very impressive
