i need to buy a gift for my blind aunt who i will be visiting in india. she does not know braille, nor does she listen to american music. so braille books and music CDs are out. i feel clothes are so generic of a gift. i've given her perfume in the past.

i would love to hear a great, special suggestion that would make her day! she is a very special person but had such bad luck because of her eyesight. she is married and has two daughters (one is in college and one in high school). she usually lives by herself at home while her husband is at work.

i'd appreciate your answers...please, no sarcasm here - this is a sensitive topic.

thanks guys. i have already bought her perfume and a time-telling clock (it reads out loud the time every hour and whenever you push a button).

Make her an audio book. Pick a book on a topic you know she'd like and record a CD for her. There are free audio programs you can use for it, just check around online. A cheap microphone and a computer is all you need. Maybe chicken soup for the soul or something like that. I recorded a collection of those stories for a relative who said she loves it when i read aloud to her.

I think books on CD are a great thing--she doesn't have to read braille or listen to American music to enjoy a story--plus there is a ton of variety in these books. They have audiobooks in both fiction and non-fiction, and if you find some good prices you can get her a variety of things to listen to. It might give her a lot of enjoyment.

I have a blind Grandmother. I was going to recommend the clock, but there are talking books as well. Try shopping at Barnes and Noble Book Stores.

Give her a nice big hug and tell her how much you love her ,how precious she is to you and how honoured you feel to to have her in ur life.It would be the best gift ever for any one.

A nice little gift wont be too bad to go with the hug after all.Personally id choose a fragrance over anything else any day.It kinda diffuses into ur soul.

What about an audiotape of greetings, messages from you and her other relatives here - or if you're the only one maybe you could record using your own voice some of your favorite poems, feelings, what's happening in your life, help her to picture life where you live, etc. It's something that she could listen to over & over again long after your visit as it sounds that as well as her being special in your life - you are special in hers.

Would a beautiful sculpture be available to you, or if you are artistic, possibly one you do yourself? Or an artist friend of yours could do one just for her, maybe of her children or herself from a photo?. The tactile feeling of a beautiful piece of glass might be something she enjoys. If that is too complex maybe a silk lined cedarwood box would appeal to her sense of touch and smell.
Good luck to you its nice she has such a thoughtful relative

How about a fine silk shawl? I'm guessing it's often hot in India so she might enjoy a lovely silk shawl to use as a light wrap when she goes out with you for dinner. She's blessed to have you.

Hi, well im 14 so i dont know if i can help much, but i think that your aunt would appreciate anything you give her as i guess your love is the best present of all, and if she knows you love her she wouldnt mind what you got her... isnt it the thought that counts?

Books on tape/cd. If she has song she does like, batteries to function the stuff. I move via lots on batteries each week. A gentle and fuzzy blanket for while it will get cool?

How about nice, special food from where you are. Everyone appreciates good food.

Or some nice smelling shower gel or creme and shampoo so she can enjoy a good luxurious shower and shampoo.
