I have been told that boys need to stand to pee. I have a 3 year old son who I have been trying to potty train and another son on the way in Late Jan. I been trying to train him to sit for both. He just dosen't really care about it right now.
To me is think it is so gross for a guy to stand up to pee. I will not allow it in my house. I trained my husband to sit. And I will train my sons to sit. I don't think it is less manly for a guy to sit. We sit, why can't a guy. Peeing standing up is gross and messy. I will not clean up there mess. There is no need for it!

Who is really going to notice if my boys are sitting in school. The stalls have doors right? Men are messy in the first place. Why should I have clean up their pee. It is so gross. I don't want to hear it or see it or clean it up for that matter.

My husband has tried to teach him to stand up. Even use the cherrio idea. Hubby told me that he looked at him and had a "whatever" look on his face. Our 3 year old son has no desire to be potty trained at this moment. And I think it is easier to teach him to sit. At least until he is totly potty trained. I still think it is gross. I really don't want my "men" to stand. I can sit for both so can my "men".

There is nothing wrong with a man or boy to pee sitting down! It is much more sanitary. When a man stands to pee, there is a risk of the urine getting on the seat, the floor, or his clothing. Also, when a man stand to pee, the urine splashes off the water and urine molecules float through the air landing on everything in the room. Think about that next time you use you toothbrush!
Potty training experts tell you to have boys sit. It is less confusing to them because they are not learning to sit for #2 and stand for #1.
I teach in a combined preschool/kindergarten classroom. Some boys sit and others stand. I have never herd a child teased for sitting down! Once you son starts school, he will see the other boys using the urinal and may want to follow suit. He can sit when at home.

from BabyCenter.com:
Why should my son start by peeing sitting down?
Since bowel movements and urine often come at the same time, it makes sense — at least initially — to have your son sit for both so he learns that both belong in the potty. This will also keep him from getting distracted by the fun of spraying when you need him to focus on just mastering the basic procedure.
How do I teach my son to pee standing up?
Once your son has mastered going to the bathroom sitting down, he can move on to the standing position. Having a readily available male role model is key, so arrange for Dad, an uncle, an older brother, or a good family friend to do the honors. After accompanying his model to the bathroom to watch, let your son give it a try in his potty chair — on his own or next to the big guy at the big toilet.
If your son seems reluctant, try floating a few pieces of O-shaped cereal or other small, flushable targets (some companies sell products just for this purpose) in the toilet bowl. You can expect to clean up a few messes as your son refines his aim.
FYI: When buying a potty chair for your son, look for one without a urine guard (or one you can remove). While a guard may protect your bathroom from a little stray pee, it's more likely that your son will bump into it and scrape his penis. The last thing you want is for him to associate going to the bathroom with pain!

I got three sisters and i have found women to be no cleaner in the peeing department than men in-fact in many ways they are worse. The major difference is the urine goes in different places. All the chicks who think there stream aims straight down are mistaken.
You see, men may hit the top of the toilet but the ladies hit under the seat and when i have to go and lift the seat because i am evil and choose to stand (except in the morning when I'm not fully awake) i find this sticky dried up urine stain.
I'm mad for two reasons. One because the guys in the house always get blamed and now I can't even hold my monster to aim so of course I might hit the bowl and two who was the last lazy good for nothing that called themselves cleaning the bathroom and left this nastiness here. Sorry for ranting.
Over all I feel we have choices and we should all do better when cleaning up after ourselves. I find it easier to pee in the shower anyway standing up. I also showed this little trick to a couple of women and they could not believe the freedom they felt from the release of standing up while peeing. It's sooooo naughty but it feels soooo good. Give it a try.
P.S. Wash the tub when u get out.

I can give you a really easy way to teach a boy or man to aim properly. Throw a small handful of Cheerios into the toilet. They float, and then I simply told my son to aim and sink the ships.
The thing is. Even though you seem to really dislike the entire function. You really have a choice right here and now you can either show him the correct way and how to keep things clean, or be left out of the loop. Because you are only going to have so much control over this matter.
Do you want your son made fun of by his peers over such a basic social whoops as not being educated in knowing all the correct ways in which to use a toilet?
Sometimes as parents we have to look beyond ourselves. Even if it is icky.

Have you ever been into a men’s public restroom?
They have these thing attached to the wall, so you can pee standing.
Allot of people say it is cleaner to sit. WRONG!
Think if you had the option to sit or stand. Wouldn't you feel it cleaner to your backside to keep your butt off where other people defecate?
Yes, it might be cleaner to your bathroom, but not all parties involved. Just you!
I would LOL and point, when your kids try and sit on one of those standing urinals in a public restroom.
If cleaning your bathroom is your only complaint, have the boys clean it.
My mom made me and I will make my son. It follows; you made the mess, now you clean it up.

If this is the way that you feel then fine however, I personally feel that a man or boy should stand up, because this is the reason they have a penis. If there are making number 2, it is obvious that they should sit.
I have two sons and they both stand to pee, I have to agree with you that it does get messy especially with my younger son because he refuses to pee in the toilet. He always seems to direct his penis towards the floor and it pisses me off.
Getting back to what I was saying I honestly feel that men should pee standing up not sitting.. It just seems weird too me...

My 3-yr old and 7-yr old stand and I agree...MESSY!! My 3-yr old has better aim, though. Go figure!! My husband, on the other hand, always sits when he pees. He thinks it's better for his prostate. Whether this is true or not, I have no clue!! He also sits when he takes a shower, which I think is strange. My husband sounds really weird all of a sudden!!

You're foolish if you think no one will notice at school. Boys PLAY in the bathroom more than they pee. They'll notice differences in things like that. In my PROFESSIONAL opinion, I feel that training a boy to sit to pee is setting him up to feel emasculated in the future. If you're comfortable sending your boys to school to be made fun of over something really really petty that could easily be prevented, you're their mom and we can't stop you. If, however, you want to raise healthy happy boys with a normal childhood, you'll allow them to pee standing up AND teach them how to aim. Millions of parents do it properly all the time. If you don't want to clean up any misses, let your son do it. It will help him to see how hitting the target is much easier than missing.

the stalls have doors, but when they walk by the urinal into a stall and the sound of them peeing resonates, they are going to be picked on.
i think that if, knowing this information, you continue to "train" your sons to do this, you are being pretty selfish. Let them decide how they want to pee.
