no -- local currency is a result of local community/culture and separate communities developed out of separate languages. so separate currencies came later.

There were other languages around before the tower of Babel incident:
Gen 10:20 These [are] the sons of Ham, after their families, after their tongues, in their countries, [and] in their nations.
Gen 10:31 These [are] the sons of Shem, after their families, after their tongues, in their lands, after their nations.
And that was before the tower of babel:
Gen 11:9 Therefore is the name of it called Babel; because the LORD did there confound the language of all the earth: and from thence did the LORD scatter them abroad upon the face of all the earth.

coins were not used till much later
there are in fact half dozen very different types of languages with no connection
celtic, latin, sanscrit, basque....
they appear not only fully formed but in very complex pristine grammers higher than today in the ancient form
when people groups are highly isolated we find today
we see no such high complexity grammers
it is very reasonable to consider that God is the sourse of language and the scrabling og languages and that civiliazations as we know it formed after bable accross the world around 4500 years ago on both hemisphere, Aztec Inca Egytian Indian chinese by the descendants of the tower of babel wannabees
leaving their signature behind, very big stone technology... where else did you think Stone Henge, pyramids and easter island's inspiration was form... the tower of Babel of course

Naw, we did that one all by ourselves--can't you tell?
BTW, I think it is fascinating when studying a language, and I've tried to study a few ancient languages, they were so consistent and meticulous and we, brilliant souls that we be today, are so chaotic. All those dumb b-astards back then could get it right and yet all these geniuses today can't. Amazing.
