There is no grasping at straws involved, though when the Holy Spirit inhabits you, and is a witness to your spirit that you are a child of God, one can indeed be at peace. To deny God's existence would be to deny my life's experiences.
I have *never*, in fact, believed in either Santa Claus, the tooth fairy, the Easter bunny, etc, because my parents, also Christians, don't believe in "white lies", and only speak the truth to me.

It's funny I recently asked a question to non-believers asking why they don't believe in Jeus and everybody called me stupid or attacked my writing style or something else, but no one answered the question, why?
Christians don't grab at straws and if you thought about that you may not have answered that question.
Grabbing at straws means you just grab at what ever is out there and hope for the best.
Being a Christian is knowing that your faith is the substance of what you hope for. My dear when I became a Christian I didn't grab a straw I grabbed the cross.

no we believe in a god because we know that he exists, why is it that atheists have such a hard time understanding this concept. do they feel insecure knowing that they are no longer all knowing.
how can you believe in something that has so many errors, the science text books, verses one that is written without error, the bible.
and no there is no tooth fairy, nor is it a christian belief

if I'm right - then I go to heaven and you go to hell
if you're right then we all just die anyway so it doesn't matter
but to answer your questions - no, I'm not afraid of dying and trying to make it easier. God has made Himself real to me. He is my best friend, not just an insurance policy.
and no, I don't believe in silly fairy tales or even lie to my children about them like most people do.

no The bible says that we may know that we have eternal life. now why would dying be hard, when you have assurance in your destination for eternity and it's awesome would you be afraid to go there? tooth fairy is real too! J/K
