One man's crutch is another man's firewood. I wouldn't want to have one ounce less cognitive ability, and I envy those with more.

You would have to define "normal" for me!

"It is no measure of health to be well adjusted to a profoundly sick society." Jiddu Krishnamurti

Intellect is neither a crutch nor a liability unless the society you happen to live in perceives it as such. Instead, intellect is a part of the wellspring of our greatest gift. Creativity.

I feel that the greater the intellect, the more normal the person is to me. No one is just like anyone else, exactly. So what is normal? Religion is the crutch, our intellects are our wings to soar above the dullards with. Enjoy the view, and bombs away!

Let's not forget about narcissism (too many "s" sounds to be spelled right, but you know the word, of course) - with healthy amounts of self-aggrandizement, cleverness in staggering amounts, and pithiness, a word that I like, in great supply. Lots and lots of ego, and no small amount of exaggerated self-worth.

Being normal for even two minutes would most likely be fatal for you... as you would be sucked into such a huge vacuum, when you survey the massive, gaping canyon between your infinite wisdom and the paltry pea-brainedness of the rest of us...

Wish for other things, oh great one of the R&S section... waste not any more time on the meek minions who adore you...

I have an ability to get inside of people's heads, so to speak, and feel what they are feeling and thinking. Those of low intellect are not pleasant to 'perceive', as a rule. If that is what is 'normal' I'm glad I am not 'normal'. They suspect they are not as smart, it is a vague feeling they have and it makes them very resentful.

Of course some people are sweet and not so bright, I think they are the luckiest of all of us.

I would suggest that intellect can be both an asset and a liability. I am normal...just an intelligent normal person...

Our intellect gives us the capacity to be gods, our mortality causes us to rush while making decisions. This is the flaw in humanity. If only Adam had run faster and got to the tree of life.

Sounds like your describing some professors I know that are a little strange from being so far into the world of acedemia, like I knew one that just loved everything to do with fungus - it was a little scary...but for the most part I think intelect is a good thing.

Question: What exactly does normal mean to you?

And who defines what is 'normal'? I don't see my intellect as a crutch.. I see it as a doorway.. it's your choice to use it and step through or to turn away from it and always wonder what's behind the door....

If you are bi-polar, maybe.
Normal is relative to each person.

Thinking about trying to be normal for two minutes could be considered abnormal, I suspect.

Trying to find a baseline that is consistent could be like finding a needle in a haystack.

Is normal a conscious state or is it the subliminal subconscious?
