3 men hire a room for £30 - each man pays £10 each =£30...cont?

the actual price of the room should have been £25 , the landlady, gives back £5 to the 3 men , they keep £1 each and tip the landlady £2....... each man has now paid £9 each x 3 = £27 and the £2 tip =
£29 ...question wheres the other £1 ?

The landlady still has it. She collected 30, gave back 5 and then accepted 2 back, equaling her total amount received of 27. Each man paid a net of 9. 9X3= 27. The "trick" in the question is the "add in the tip". The tip has nothing to do with accounting for the total.

Each man pays £30, and gets £5 each back, means they have paid £25 each. They each tip the Landlady £2 eack, means they have paid £27 each. The maths ain't right!! There is no other £1.

And then the get each get £1 (so thats 3 men so thats £3) and plus the tip which equals £5 gone, and £25 is gone to


Well there was a correct answer to this but because I didnt read the question I forgot it!

They each keep £1 = £3

27 + 3 = £30

8.(3)*3=25
0.(6)*3=2
