Because they are cowards. They choose to take out their aggression on poor defenseless animals because they couldn't defend themselves against someone their own size.
They usually have poor self esteem and sometimes mental issues as well.
It makes them feel big and tough to be able to dominate. These are usually the same people that are child and spouse abusers.
Watch out for anyone that does this, especially as a child. It's usually a good sign that they are going to have problems later in life.

Because there are some real monsters out there and it is usually the same ones that are the mean to other people. A lot of times it someone who feels they little and or no control over anything so they try to dominate something that is helpless. And then there are others that have no heart and no respect for an animal so they take out their anger on that helpless creature. I do not understand people and those types I want nothing to do with, I have no respect for them, to me they are just as bad as any prisoner in the jail system.

Some people are mean and cruel to their pet or pets because they probably were treated the same way when they were younger and they probably never had animals or knew the proper way to care for them. Or they have this frustration and they have no one else to take it out on except their animals. Which to me is a sad and mean thing to do.

they think it makes them look and feel tough, when all it proves that they are cowards. they have to hide their toughness behind an innocent animal. it also says that they have some anger issues and they need to be worked out before they own an animal.

because they are sooooo unhappy ..and they do not deserve to have a pet..if you know of someone hurting a pet you should report them to the police

some poeple are mean to animals because they might have a problem or they aren't an animal type person.

They are just plain CRULE!!! one of my dogs died because it ran off to my neighbors!
