Once airborne, balloons just float with the wind. It is true that the pilot doesn't know where the balloon will land ahead of time, but that doesn't mean he can't control the landing!
Before the balloon is launched, the pilot knows which way the wind is blowing so he knows which way the balloon will go. The air is in layers, and the different layers may be moving in different directions. So even though the pilot can't steer the balloon, he can move up and down to find a layer of air that will allow the balloon to change direction.

Are you serious, dude? Come on now....everyone knows that hot air balloons can't be steered. The people are actually committing suicide by going for rides in them and letting it take em into space. Think man!!!!!

Not directly but by adjusting the height it hits wind travelling in different directions and also thermals can shift it. A good pilot would map out his route before lift off.

Yes, but only by adjusting height, so taking advantage of air streams that move in different directions. It's less precise than rack and pinion!

I don't know the means by which they're steered, but I'd lay money that they CAN be steered, or nobody in their right mind would ever fly in one!

That's why when you take a balloon ride you park closer to your destination not where you started

Change altitude for winds and thermals, or perhaps fitting an electric fan would help.

sort of. they can make them go up and down and so they move them up and down to where the wind is stronger/weaker/different direction.
but you're still just going where the wind blows.
