"...never hurt your own children." What does that say about a god that sends his own son to die an excruciating death on the cross?
Human/child sacrifice was common among other nations at the time Abraham took Isaac to sacrifice, but God stopped him so that God's chosen people would learn that human sacrifice is NEVER acceptable to God. Other nations continued human sacrifice, but it was forbidden to God's people.
What kind of people would worship a god that demanded any human sacrifice, let alone his own son?

Abraham never actually hurt Isaac. I think deep down he knew God was just testing him. When he and Isaac started up the mountain in the beginning of the story, Abraham never told Isaac he was the sacrifice, he said "God will provide a sacrifice." And in the end, God provided a goat, and Isaac was never touched.
The story was God's way of showing Abraham how hard a decision it would have been to allow his own son to die. A few thousand years later, God Himself made that painful decision.
as for your crack about eternal life, nobody says you get another shot on this earth. the NT says, "to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord"

no, you are wrong, back in his day sacrificing infants was a societal norm and christianity was just in its beginning stages, this story is used to support the new christian change from sacrificing real animals and peoples and using jesus as a sacrifice instead, that is why in church you consume his flesh and drink his blood, cause people really did this stuff in ancient time and they needed an adequate substitute, but you are unfairly judging some old dead dude from many centuries later when hindsight is better than 20/20 ,thats like some distant race looking back and seeing you in a picture with a mcdonalds burger in your hand and then talking about what a frikkin savage heathen you were for eating that when you were just guilty of participating in popular culture and following cultural norms, yes it is the same thing there are plenty of barbaric practices that many cultures practiced before we decided that these practices were not civilized, like having little choir boys testicles surgically removed so they would keep their high voices this was a common practice somewhere in the UK at one time, so the church boys could sing pritty

God had given Abraham a promise that through Isaac he would have more descendents than the stars. So when GOD asked, and He did ask, for Abraham to sacrifice his son, Abraham knew that even if he did kill his son that GOD would bring him back from the dead in order to fullfill His promise to him.
That's why when he raised his hand and angel stopped him and GOD spoke sayin "You have not withheld your son, your only son from me, now I know you truly love me." This is actually a representation of what GOD did for us by sending Christ to die.
He did not withhold his son, His only Son from us that's how we know He truly loves us.
Abraham told his servants as he and his son went toward the hill
"We are going up the mountain to worship, we will be back."
notice he said "we will be back." Abraham knew his son was coming back one way or the other, but both ways pointed to life.
I believe every step Abraham took up the mountain, the ram that was caught in the thorns by his horns was walking up the other side. For Abraham also said to his son "GOD will provide His own lamb." And He did

No, do not agree. portion of the perfection of your god is that he's all-effective. As such, he would already recognize what Abraham's love for him became. there became no choose for him to ask Abraham to kill his son- accordingly the total tale is stupid. God did not prefer to have Abraham show his faith because god already knew what Abraham's faith became and he already knew how the total component would play out. it really is the absurdity of it. no longer that he must have arise with "yet otherwise" yet that "no way" became needed contained in the first position. Even Jesus regarded the absurdity of that style of component. it truly is why he instructed his disciples no longer to spend a lot of time making intricate prayers-god already is conscious what you want and what you opt for and god already is conscious what he will do, inspite of what your desires or desires are. Prayer will no longer replace some thing- to assert in the different case is to disclaim that god already is conscious each little thing which will happen. Prayer is a few thing human beings do for his or her own income to keep their heads on instantly in the adventure that they are the shape of human beings that would't imagine till they have self belief they are speaking with god. in the adventure that your god existed, he would hear you, yet no longer some thing would replace.

It's called faith. God had made a covenant with Abraham promising to make him the father of many. Isaac was a miracle as Abraham and Sarah were both past childbearing when he was conceived. Abraham believed God and it was accounted unto him as faith. Abraham was a friend of God. He had faith that God would provide the sacrifice, which He did. It is called a type and shadow of Christ, the Sacrifice provided by God for our sins. Faith saves. Abraham had faith that God would not promise him Isaac and then take him away. Turns out his faith was well placed, huh?

No, if he had tried to run away from the Lord with his son Isaac, then THAT would have been selfish. God had given Abraham a test of faith. Since Abraham did as told without hesitation,God rewarded him by making him "Father of many nations".

God tests everyone but not all the same way.
God wants a relationship with you thru Christ, try believing it will change your life.
"For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;" Romans 3:23
"For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord." Romans 6:23
"But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us." Romans 5:8
"For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life." John 3:16
"That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation." Romans 10:9-10

He didn't kill his own son. God was testing him to see how much he trusted Him. God had a ram in the thicket to offer up. It wasn't God's plan that Abraham kill his son. Abraham's seed was heir to the promise. So, you can say it was a selfish act, but it wasn't. It was an act of obedience.

Was God Himself wrong for allowing His Son to be sacrificed rather than removing Him from the cross?
