Go to Jewelers Mutual website
https://www.jewelersmutual.com/
I had Jewelers Mutual recommended to me by many different people and decided to look into it. I later found out that my jewelers use this company for their insurance. I do own a home and jewelers mutual is less expensive than having jewelery on my homeowners. Even my homeowners agent told me that I won't find a better price than Jewelers Mutual.
The company is very helpful if you call with any questions and the best part is no deductible (if you choose that option). They also give out special discounts so if your finace parents have an alarm on their house...automatic discount!.
Jewelers Mutual will replace your jewelery if it is LOST or stolen...no questions asked. If it should fall down the drain or mysteriously disappear...it is replaced. You will work with your preferred jeweler for repairs and replacements that are covered by the policy. Most often you will return to the jeweler from where you purchased the piece or who provided you your insurance appraisal.
To start a policy you will need an up to date appraisal (within the last 12 months) and than every year when the policy is due to be renewed you will have to take the piece of jewelry, to a jeweler, to have it inspected before you can pay your premium for the next year. Most people forget to have their jewelery inspected so with their policy of having it inspected every year...forces you to have it checked out.
Don't let that piece of jewelry go insured. That's the worst choice you could ever make for spending so much money on it.
Hope this helps!

Hopefully you already have a renters policy. Call your insurance agent or insurance company and ask about a rider for an engagement ring. The advantage to a rider for jewelry is that should it be lost or stolen, there is no deductible and the ring won't be subject to the limit on your home policy. It shouldn't be too expensive.

It doesn't matter if you have a home or not.

Go to the jeweler from whom you bought the ring, and ask him to recommend an insurance company to insure the ring.

Also, I would recommend that you buy renter's insurance for your apartment. If the ring is in the apartment now, and something should happen to the apartment, the ring would be covered under personal property.

Get a renters insurance policy and add the ring on to it. The only catch is that the ring needs to be insured in the apartment it is in. So, if she already has it, you may need to put it on HER renters insurance policy at her apartment. You can still pay it.

The store I went too offered pretty decent insurance policies... my girls ring ($7,000) is insured for damage, theft, and if it's lost... my policy on costs 2.00 a month... which I think is pretty cheap.... go ask your jewelry store if it's not too late to insure it there... the only catch on my policy, is my girl has to go into the jewelry store every 6 months so they can go over the ring......

take your reciept to an insurance company, they'll answer all your questions. it's fairly cheap to have a jewelry policy. I think I pay 30$ for the whole year and that's full coverage.

My suggestion, get something that is very pretty but not so expensive that you can't buy it with cash. I think it is stupid when people charge on a ring that cost more that there residential and car payment combined. Get what you can afford for right now. if she loves you the ring is secondary to you. Plus on your ten year anniversary get her the big ring.
