I have lactose intolerance and have never taken any over the counter medicine for it. Could you give me some suggestions on what I could take to help it? Thanks

You could take Lactaid pills. You take them just before you eat something with milk in it. You still may not be able to drink milk, but the Lactaid pills should enable you to eat cake, biscuits, muffins, and pancakes. Also you need to take calcium pills daily.
