Yet more fact-less spew from Erudite. For someone who was supposedly in Vietnam, you sure don't have your facts.
The Vietnam vets were spit on. They were called names, mostly "baby killers". They also had bags of crap thrown at them. Many bad things were done to and said to the men returning home. All you have to do is go to any web site that has a vet forum and read about what happened. They're not accounts by fakes like you, they're real stories from real men who were there.
You're a sick hateful man, Erudite.

Again, this is not even a real question. My grandpa was in uniform walking to work at the Pentagon when there were hippies standing at the front door trying to block people from getting in. They were spitting on him and not once did he raise his hand to deal out a justified blow to the jaw of those ungrateful bastards. Talk to ANY Vietnam Vet and they will quickly correct your false assumption. Your supposed "facts" not only are skewed, but are based on opinions made up to make your "question" sound good. What are you doing here in Yahoo Answers? This isn't a question so why do you need answers? In fact, what the hell are you doing here in the United States of America? Maybe you should go over to France and join them in their political rant against America. Before you go though, make sure that you can hauk some flegm while you speak so that you sound French otherwise they won't accept you either.

As a Vietnam veteran, I can tell you FOR A FACT that upon arriving back in the USA after my tour of duty, I was walking through the airport in Los Angeles, California (August, 1969), and was spit upon by three high-school-age PUNKS and called "baby killer" and "murderer". I did what most servicemen would do, I kept my composure and did not lower myself to their level by responding, although I wanted to kick their butts all the way to the recruiter's office.

This was the first *televised* war. There were reports of entire villages being wiped out ETC. The Vietnam vets were called baby-killers and were spit upon. It really happened.

They were spit upon and worse, the US people did not support the war and the vets were treated very badly on their return from active duty. Talk to a few who were there and you will get a better understanding of what went on. I don't think you are getting your information from a reliable source.

Excuse me! I was at the airport to pick up my oldest brother who had served four long years in Vietnam. He was shot by a sniper and survived, he was on crutches and in uniform. When we met him at the gate a man who was yelling obscenities ran up and spit on him! I saw this with my own eyes! And that yellow streak on his back made him run as fast as he could like the coward he was, and probably still is!

It happened, don't think to a large extent though, many anti-war people did not support troops at that time. Those that spit would call military 'baby killers' because of civilian casualties.

They were. To say otherwise is a flat out lie. I know many Vietnam vets from my membership in VFW. They did not hit back because doing so is in itself an illegal act. But then again, I am sure there are some out there who did retaliate to the spitting and even worse things the hippie protesters did.

Some of them were spit upon. Many of them recieved verbal abuse if they were in uniform over here. This was done only by a small part of the people, but still was terrible.
