That might indicate that he cannot enjoy kissing you.
I close my eyes, because then my other senses are sharper, and I can enjoy the feeling.
Even if he doesn't like you, I mean you personally, he should be enjoying kissing, since the experience itself is more or less indifferent from the person. At least for me.
A hug is not indiferent, since it has no, or really low sexual value, and it is more of a sentimental action.
Therefore, if this guy does not enjoy kissing, then he might have had some bad experience in the past associated with kissing, and he is doing it just because socially he is more or less required to do it in a relationship. Or, the other possibility is that he is gay, but I doubt it.
So, try to talk to him openly. Ask him, and tell him that he can say anything, and you won't judge him. But I guess that the relationship that you have is pretty bad, so maybe just getting out of it is the best way to go.

When the two of you are kissing, next time ask him to close his eyes. Maybe he just enjoys looking at you when you both kiss.

maybe that's just the way he likes to kiss, i wouldn't think too much into it. your eyes must be open too if you're seeing that this is what he is doing. does it really make a difference?

If you notice his eyes aren't closed when kissing you then your eyes must also be open.....

seems like you both don't otherwise how would you know that he doesn't .......you don't trust each other.
