I've been addicted to internet gambling and got over it when I lost £1000 in one day. That's painful enough to put anybody off-God doesn't enter into it. And I should point out I'm not an atheist although I don't believe in a personal God.

I overcame an addiction to cocaine, and I was an atheist when I did it. God never helped me once. Anything I have achieved, I have done on my own with no outside help.
EDIT: It had nothing to do with the thumbs down, Jim. Not really. Just the constant preaching and judging, and you can't ever get anywhere. I know you understand exactly what I mean.
And then we have the hate mail. I refuse to disable my mail access because some really nice people contact me. And then we have the fundies who think they have the right to shove their beliefs and their damnation down my throat.
The mail has been coming hot and heavy today, and I have just had enough of it. I was venting, probably shouldn't have. But will they never get it??

I got bored with drinking. I still do it, but only a few times a year.
Maybe it wasn't an addiction now that I think about it. Maybe I just did it every day for something to do. I might just have what they call an addictive personality. My wife was quite happy when I focused my addiction on working on our house. Our palace of Versailles eventually bored me too though.

i'm addicted to Y!A. If God reads my answers, I don't think He'd want to help me get over it.

Cocaine and alcohol...
Meditation, exercise, and healthy eating habits can work wonders. It provides the same thing that religion does... a high to replace the one you're used to.
