All military information is assumed to be on a need to know basis.

Civilians have no use for your ID number, your drivers licence or SIN is more than sufficient for them.

You have no reason to provide that number unless instructed by your CO or another appropriate ranking officer. There may some rare situation where a quartermaster may need to reference your number if they are going off base for some specialized piece of equipment, but i doubt that even.

In the event of something drastic, having your enlistment papers at home for your next of kin may be a good idea...don't want to be morbid, but just in case.

That should be something that was in your enlistment papers under - Information not to tell others.

Most of us, not being in the Canadian Army, would have no idea if it's supposed to be kept secret or not.

Maybe ur in the wrong place, cause buddy u should know this already. If I were u I'd start t worrying about what else you don't know but should.

If you're captured, I wouldn't worry about it too much.
