My boyfriend is redecorating his flat, we mask off the switches, plugs etc, windows, doors, and paint the walls, but then it comes to painting the skirting boards and ceilings, and we end up getting paint on the wet walls. We can't put masking tape on the walls (because it is wet), and we can't wait for it to dry as we only have a very limited time (weekends, and nights when we have the energy) and he wants to sell his flat ASAP.

So please help anyone who knows the painting and decorators' secrets!!!

YOU HAVE TO WAIT FOR IT TO DRY.

Have a good look impartially, pretending that you and your partner never painted it. How does it look. If you had to pay for it would you.Time is what it takes. Walls and ceilings can take as little as a couple of hours to dry. Whilst your waiting make a cup or tea, paint in the next room. Or better still, pay a professional. The finish, could add 2000 to you property, instead of devaluing it by 2000.

im a decorator, you always start at the top, so paint the ceiling, cut in 1st, then roll, then rub down the woodwork, by that time the ceiling will be dry, now cut in without masking tape the ceiling, just take your time, then while the walla are drying, go and sit in the van, have a ***, a cuppa tea and then go back, undercoat, then go back in the van , go back, hoover and then gloss, thats the way i always do it, and to the above answer, u dont need to wait 2 hours, that is the recomended time under usual circumstances, wack the heating up and enjoy

You need to do the ceiling first and wait 2 hours before starting the walls. Wait 2 more hours before glossing the skirtings and keep a very steady hand.

the quickest way is do ceilihg first go round edges against walls first use roller 4 ceiling if even nearly go round all areas on walls where gloss paint will (skirting /frames /windows/plugs even ceiling line roller rest of walls repeat when dry ) then rour quickness use a water based gloss paint
