My next door neighbor has a pit bull pup that they have had for about 5 months now. They said he was 2 months when they got him. I see my neighbor's 11 year old daughter walking from time to time and the dog looked pretty thin to me and didn't look like he was growing at all, so i saw the girl again recently and she had the pup with her and i noticed it's coat looked very bad so i asked the girl was the dog sick or anything and she said yes, he has ticks. So i got some info about ticks off the internet and gave it to the girl to give to her mom and she did. So i saw the mom a little bit after and asked her did she take the dog to see a vet and she told me yes. That was a month ago and to me this dog still looks underweight and sick. So i saw the daughter the other day and she told me that her mom never took the dog to the vet cause they couldn't afford it. So mom lied to me. I want to offer to pay for this myself cause i love dogs and this dog needs to see a vet. Do you think i should?

Well, earlier this evening i went oover to my neighbor's house to talk with her about my concerns for her pup and she finally broke down and told me she had not taken the pup to the vet cause she just dosen't have the money and she tried to treat the pup herself. But her and her little girl love the pup and it would be hard for them to get rid of him. She was crying so i know that she cares about this dog. So i told her that i would help her and i would pay the bill and try to get this pup healthy again. She really appreciates my offer and she thanked me. I have a dog of my own so i know how wonderful they are. So i'm taking off work tomorrow and we are going to take the pup in for treatment and hopefully all goes well! Thank you everyone for the good suggestins!

I think that you have a very kind and loving heart to make such an offer. I'm sure a lot of people are going to tell you to call animal control, and that may solve the problem, but I'm sure it will also break the little girl's heart if the dog is removed.

I think that they would probably turn down your offer because of pride, so the next best thing would be to go to the vet and pay for the visit in advance and get a gift certificate. You might also want to give it to them a bag dog dog food, and maybe some treats. You might also offer to take them to the vet as well.

Just a thought. Good luck.

Offer to take the dog to the vet yourself, or call a local vet and prepay for the pup with a credit or debit card over the phone. Just make sure you don't come off as pushy. If she refuses you should call some pet authority's. If she can't afford vet bills she might not be able to afford dog food either. The dog could be sick and possibly dangerous to other dogs and humans if he doesn't receive his vaccinations and rabies shots.

Since it seems that the mother is ignoring your concerns and by lying to you I don't think she would take the help you offered I would definitely contact the Humane Society or SPCA in your area. If you can't find either of them, try animal control or ask a local veterinarian for assistance in finding proper authorities. Not only is the dog at risk because of the ticks, so is the child. This should be handled as soon as possible.

Get them some info on the SPCA they have programs to help ppl pay for vet bills and food for their animals. She might feel a little offended having someone pay fo it. If she still doesn't get the dog to the vet then call the Humane Society bc if you pay for the one visit that doesn't mean she would go if this were to happen again or she could even begin to hit you up for money all the time.

Well if they are that poor they just need to give it up to adoption. The dog is obviously malnurished and in poor condition. And if you give them money who knows if it would go to the dog, unless you took the dog itself to the vet. But seeing as it's in poor condition it could cost alot of money to get it healthy again. And once it's healthy again, how are they going to afford to keep it healthy. Wouldn't you be pissed off if you spent $400 on their dog, just to see it a month later in the same crummy condition.
Either call your local ASPCA and have them deal with it. Maybe you could even adopt it once the ASPCA rehabilitated it and got it healthy again.
Or you could go tell her to give it to you or you'll call the ASPCA and that you will take excellent care of it.
Either way go tell her that she can't afford the dog and that keeping it in that condition is a crime that includes jail time for punishment. So she needs to give it up to you (If you can afford it or have it) or to an animal shelter that will get it healthy again and adopt it to someone. Unless you'd rather just pay for the dogs meds, vet bills, food, ect for the rest of it's life while it lives with them. Either way thats just my two cents and to kind of summerize it, I don't think you should pay for it unless they give it to you or up for adoption. Because a month later it will be in the same condition. Well good luck. I hope it turns out best for the puppy.

Wow! I know exactly how you feel, the same thing happend to me a while ago, i would say that you should offer, but if they refuse, don't push the issue, but if they refuse and the dog's condition doesn't improve, then you might have to take more extreme actions, you might have to call the animal athorities on these people. Even if you all get along, you have to think of the puppy, it might ruin your neighborly relationship, but you have to think, what's more important, a life, or a relationship?

Make a call to the local shelter or humane society or APSCA if there is one close.
If they can not afford proper vet care for the dog it is also possible they can not afford to feed it. And it sounlds like this is also true.
The dog needs help and deserves to be able to eat and have proper medical care.

the best thing to do is to call the animal control and let them know what is going on and how long it has been going on for. you should not get involved because it can cause a fristion between you and your neighbor, but if you call the animal control she will know who did it but as an animal lover i would call them and if you are not worried about your friendship with this person then call so this poor animal can get the help it needs.

the only thing you can do is make the offer. let them know that you are very concerned about the dog and you feel that it would be to the dogs best interested to find out what is wrong. you have a good heart and i applaued you for that. I hope they accept your offer.
