The sword is not necessarily the sword of war. Christ did not carry a sword of war. The one time he picked up a weapon was a whip of cords to drive out the money changers from the temple.
Christ loved those who hated him, and part of his love for them was to point out precisely how they failed. That is, Christ rebuked the Pharisees and scribes, telling them that their desire to be perceived as holy (i.e., their pride and showoffism) was hypocritical. This is just one example. The point being that part of love is telling people that they are walking the wrong way, thinking in a prideful manner, and not doing God's will even though their lives are made to appear "dressed up in the clothes" of God. For, what is love worth if it idly sits by while another actively loses his or her soul?
Also, Christ cleaved the sin from the sinner--a use of the metaphorical sword.
Christ did not die by the sword. Christ died by crucifixion. I am not sure what you're asking by your last two questions. Christ died for all sinners he loved, and simultaneously hated all of our sins.

For the Word of God is quick and powerful and sharper than any two-edged SWORD, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. Hebrews 4:12
And He (Jesus) had in His right hand seven stars: and out of His mouth went a sharp two-edged SWORD: Revelation 1:16
Jesus speaking to the church in Pergamos: Repent; or else I will come unto you quickly and will fight against them with the SWORD of My mouth. Revelation 2:16
Describing Jesus: And out of his mouth goes a sharp SWORD that with it He should smite the nations, and He shall rule them with a rod of iron, and He treads the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God. Revelation 19:15
Jesus is the Word of God made flesh who dwelt among us (see John 1:1-5 and John 1:9-14, emphasis on verse 14).
Right now, Jesus is sitting at Father's right hand extending grace to whosoever will turn from the way that God hates and is letting everybody choose the way they will go. But there is coming a day when the gig's going to be up, and the evil is going to be stopped.
This is what Jesus said concerning the Word of God: He that rejects Me and receives not My words has one that judges him: the Word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day.

Christ was the sword ... the word of God. Christ died by the sword of man but in accordance with Gods pre-ordained plan. I think that by quoting that Christ came not to bring peace but a sword is a bit of a mis-representation of the context in which he spoke. All too often these types references out of context do nothing more than arm those with no Biblical foundation to malign Christ and His glorious ministry.

I would think that the sword would be the repercussions of not going with Christ... and if you wanted to get technical, Revelations is full of prophecy of war in the future... But He is still offers peace... if you follow Him, your reward it an eternity of peace and love with Him...

Christianity is nothing more than a cult. People have this sick need to believe in something, anything. Crucifixion wasn't a form of death until hundreds of years after Jesus supposedly came to earth...conveniently around the same time the bible was written. Also the letter J had not been invented either so his name could not have been Jesus. And Immaculate Conception? Give me a break!!! Are you people really dumb enough to believe Mary was a chaste woman and Joseph out of the goodness of his heart married a woman who was pregnant with a baby she claimed was "God's"?! He would be a nutbag to do so! The only reason Christianity is not recognized as the cult it is is because so many people are followers. Be a leader!

To "die by the sword" is analogous to being murdered, or, death by another's hands.
So yes, He did die, "by the sword."
Your first question is really a good one. I think it's rhetorical, as well it should be, since one can only answer that for him/herself.
I think you're a very "deep" person--and that is a compliment...

The two passages are somewhat contradictory on the face of it, if the 1st is taken as instructions to his followers.
What was the context of the 1st? The 2nd seems to be essentially that you should put aside your violent ways lest you die a violent death because of them.
