The estimated 50,000 Chinese-Americans in Atlanta -- and anyone who appreciates Asian culture -- now have a new spot for dining, shopping and socializing. Atlanta developer Peter Chang's company, Atlanta Chinatown Investments, L.L.C. purchased the Chinatown Square Mall in Chamblee and since then has renovated it and integrated it into a broader international project.
The 65,000-square-foot mall includes a Chinese Food Court, two restaurants, several offices, a grocery store, gift shops, a bookstore, cosmetic shop, a video rental store, a beauty salon and other retailers. It will be part of the International Village project, a 375-acre live and work community with a global theme that is being developed by local business leaders, the DeKalb Chamber of Commerce, DeKalb County and the City of Chamblee.

Mall Makeover
The shopping center, which is next to the Chinese Community Center and across the street from the Chamblee MARTA station, was built in 1988 by its former owner.

The Shopping Mall got a makeover in year 2000 when two stone Chinese lion statues were installed at the main entrance. The inner courtyard has a Chinese Garden with two beautiful wall murals from China. In the food court, the tables and chairs have been replaced as well as the flooring. The interior was repainted and new signboards have also been installed to enhance the appearance of the food court. Three televisions were installed in the food court to keep the customers entertained during dining.

somebody else wrote the book on China Town but Underground is right in the middle of downtown. Get on 75/85 head towards Grady Hospital and you will see the signs. It's neat and worth the trip. Have fun!

You already have a great answer on Atlanta and Chinese - Asian communities. But there is nothing Chinese in Underground Atlanta - of all course all the goods they sell is made in China, but nothing authentically Chinese in any way.
