On the vin each portion of the vin identifies it. The easiest way is the 11 digit.

1 = 2001
Y = 2000

Look at the title.
Look at the registration.
It will be on those documents.
Sometimes it will be on the insurance verification card.
Check the VIN, the 10th digit is the year, coded, 1st digit gives you the country, the second the manufacturer.
With the full VIN you can get the information as to make model year and engine type from several web pages, including Kelly Blue Book ( http://www.kbb.com )

have the VIN number run ... this is usually located in the lower left corner of the vehicle's windshield (drivers side) You can have your local vehicle registration department do this for, or you can ask a dealership to do it for you also sometimes.
