sores are very normal when you first get braces. your mouth just has to get used to them and the tissue will get tougher and then you wont be as sensitive to the brackets.

for now? um...you need some wax if you dont have any yet.
this sounds really gross, but get a cup of water and put in a couple teaspoons of salt (i put in like 5) and gargle it. seriously. it helps. big time!!! cleans out the sores and they go away quicker.

1. What you are experiencing is completely normal, especially for just having them put on so recently. I constantly tell people that they should be prepared to eat extremely soft food for the first 1-2 weeks after having their braces put on.

2. If you have a few particularly bad sores caused by a certain edge or wire, try using some wax to cover the sores. Your orthodontist should have given you some. I found another thing that was good for temporary relief was Kloriseptic. Its a spary on local anesthetic and will work good for about 15-30 minutes.

3. Don't worry, after a week or two the pain will die down to a more bearable level. Of course, you will experience hightened levels of pain everytime you have the braces tightened, but it should only last for a few days after the tightening.

This is a common problem with getting braces.

First, make sure there aren't any wires poking or brackets that have broken. If this has happened, contact your ortho asap to have it fixed.

If the wires and brackets are all in tact, take a pain reliever such as tylenol for the pain. Brushing your teeth can help to relieve the pain as well, and keeping your teeth clean will help them move quicker.

You should have gotten some brace wax (or you can get it at most pharmacies or grocery stores). Use this wax anywhere on your braces that rub the inside of your mouth.

Also, brushing the inside of your cheeks will help toughen them up and keep them from getting sore.

Better get used to it, the hurt will eventually subside, but that will be about the time you have to go back to the dentist and have them tightened and that hurts just as bad! You can get wax strips that you put over the braces to stop the sores also get some tooth pain reliever like anbesol it will also help. Try to deal with it the best you can, its the best investment your parents will ever make and you'll be very happy when your an adult with a beautiful smile.

This is quite normal. I know 3 people who had braces and had the same problem as you. You'll just have to consume only soft food or liquid. The pain will actually last longer. After a while, the pain will go away but you still can't eat anything hard.

The one thing you can do is get ortho wax from the drug store. It is a wax you place over the brackets and wires. You'll have to use it often. There are also some products at the drug store in the dental section to relieve mild pain. A lot of patients have this problem with braces. There is a product called Orabase to cover the areas of your mouth that hurt. This works well sometimes.

Try Jamba Juice with a vitamin booster. Your mouth has to heal and if you don't have the right vitamins in you diet, it takes longer. Your ortho should check and make sure there are no rough edges and suggest an over the counter for the massive tooth ache. Just when it starts to go away, you'll get another adjustment and it will hurt again. Remember, you are shifting bone and you know how much a broken bone hurts (if not, ask someone).

I know you ortho will advise you against this, however, get some no-stick gum, must of the sticks are now anyways. and keep chewing it. the constant soreness is from your teeth being pulled. If you keep some pressure on it I found it didn't hurt as bad. As far as the sores go, get some wax to cover the sharp areas of the brackets. You can buy the wax anywhere, plus your ortho should have gave you some. It sucks but your mouth will callous up to the sensitive areas. Good Luck

I wonder why your orthodontist has not mentioned anything about it! A simple solution is to stick well chewed bubble gum on areas of the braces where it is hurting badly. At least place a cotton to relieve the ulcer from again hitting the clips. but no tricks wil work at night. You have to pray to God. You could have gone for the braces kept under your teeth called Lingual Orthodontics. Now ,mix Mucopain gel [Benzocaine] and Tess/Kenacort oral gel [Triamcenalone actonide] and apply on the sores to get these ulcers heal fast. All the best....

It will get better. Did the orthodontist give you any wax? You can use a special dental wax to cover the parts of the braces that irritate the inside of your mouth the most. But if the sores are really bad, tell your parents, and maybe you should go back to see the doctor.
