On the report from the denied credit firm, it only gave debt amounts from Equifax and no names. I paid off all my bills at the end of 2005 and early 2006 and only have two debts, outside the two mortgage payments. What can I do to get the info and get my credit report updated. I can't get the free credit reports, because someone has already used my name and they say I have already requested th "free report". I have not requested that report this year. Are there any options for me/

Buy a credit report. They aren't that expensive. It seems like a cheap cost to fix what could be a big problem if you let it go.

If you are denied credit based on the information in a consumer credit report, you are entitled to a free copy of your credit report from the agency or agencies that the lender received the information from. It should all be explained in detail on the denial notice, including the toll-free number and mailing address of the credit bureau whose report was used.

This is NOT the free credit report that you are entitled to through http://www.annualcreditreport.com It is a totally separate entitlement.

Anytime you are denied credit based on information contained in your credit report you are entitiled to a free report from the agency or angenies that reported the information. You should get a letter from them soon stating that very thing, because when you are declined a letter is automatically generated and sent out from the credit bureau.

When you get the letter either call or write (writing works best) your dispute to them.

If mailing include:
Copy of DL
Copy of recent utility bill with your address
Copy of page w/ disputed item on it
Letter stating your name, ssn and DOB, acct. you are disputing and why you are disputing it.

All things mailed should be sent Certified, Return Receipt (cost $4.48)

Some credit card companies send a response on why credit was denied. It usually comes in the mail about 2-3 weeks after denial.

You can get a free credit report ANYTIME you have been denied credit.

You have probably had your identity stolen by the person who asked for your credit report.

You can request a free credit report by the 3 credit companies once a year. Call them. Here's where to find their numbers. This will give you the information you need and if anything is wrong on your credit, call a dispute it, but I think they need that in writing. If you think your identity has been stolen, let them know that too. They will work with you.

Everytime you get denied for credit, the lender denying you is required to send you a letter that will allow you to attain a copy of your report. If the lender has not sent you this letter, request one ASAP. They are required to do this by law.
