Currently Humans can see most of the universe, almost all the way back to the very beginning. Soon we should be able to see all the way to the very beginning with the new telescopes that are being developed.
So far no one has found a "heaven". So where is it exactly? In another dimension? If so wouldn't that study of that be the work of cosmologist and not theologist?

" I don't try to imagine a personal God; it suffices to stand in awe at the structure of the world, insofar as it allows our inadequate senses to appreciate it."

There has been much speculation about that, and the conclusion I have personally come to is that my knowledge and understanding is too limited to know the answer. I would speculate that it is on a different plane of existence, but that is just my best guess. If God is truly all-powerful, as I (as a Christian) believe, it could be right here and he has simply made it invisible to us. We probably won't ever know unless we get there.

.Your opening premise is wrong about seeing most of the universe, how do we know? Every time we get a more powerful telescope, our estimate of the universe increases. We have no idea how large, or how close we are to seeing the outer edges of it.

We do know that the Bible says that Christ descended from Heaven, and after the Crucifixion, He ascended back into Heaven. It's these descriptions that lea us to believe that Heaven is "up there".

As far as another dimension. We live in four dimensions now, three spatial, and time. There are at least six other dimensions which have collapsed on to each other, and are less than the Plank length, which is 10 to the minus 33 centimeters. Heaven could be in one of these other dimensions, or it could even be out beyond the edge of the Universe. If Heaven is beyond the "matter" of this universe, it could be in a place where the passage of time doesn't exist.

Jesus "ascended to heaven". People saw it and Christianity is based on it. So if Jesus had to ascend, it means it wasn't here on earth. If they haven't found it yet, then it's on in the sky, maybe somewhere further. Maybe Jesus just went up to the ozone layer and dissintegrated, allowing him to go to another dimension... but apparently he was made into a spiritual body, though St. Thomas was able to touch it... Unless someone just made it all up, which sounds easier to believe than someone going through all that trouble for no reason. (and all those who say there IS a reason, look around you, the world is worse than when "he left")

Humans cannot see "most" of the universe. All of our ideas on the size of the universe are based on theories. Until someone finds a edge of the universe I will continue believing it is infinite.

I believe it is all around us! I believe it is not a tangible place, rather a spiritual place. We cannot see the spirit or soul, that is not to say it does not exist. We won't have the answers until we leave this earthly body.

Quantum phycisists would be the best bet-multiverse theory suggests that there are universes alongside our own with differing laws governing time and matter-who knows they might be gaining a glimpse of heaven.

At first it was in the sky then it was "conveintly" moved into another dimension once we figured out it wasn't in the sky.

Heaven and hell reside in our minds and hearts. They are metaphors for the dichotomy of human existence.
