How high of a dosage were you on before it started working to prevent and cool episodes?

I don't need an education on the drug, I know that, just looking for some personal experiences. Thanks.

Okay, nice and interesting answers all. Well, I am on Depakote 250 ER and I only take it once a day. I have been on it for 5 years and I think it works great, you can defenitly tell when I haven't had it for a week, lol. It started working for me within 10 days to start, after I have been off it for a while and ppl remind me to get back on it, it normally only takes two days (to get back into my system) to get back to "me". I haven't gained any weight from it, except from my new job sitting on my butt. I don't have any side effects at all. I like the outcome and feel better taking it than not. So that is my experience. Also, I was just asked by my doctor when the last time I had my liver tested, I haven't the whole time I have been on it, so I think I am doing great. I recommend it for anyone with bipolar and mixed personalities

Honey I don't remember what the milligram was on it because I haven't taken it for so long. They switched me to Seroquel. I know that I was only on it for about a week before it started working on me. They used that drug to find out if I was Bipolar or not and yes I am. It stopped the Psychotic episodes and made me feel normal for a while and then it just quit working which is why I was switched to seroquel. It doesn't matter what anti-psychotic that you are on either, they all make you gain weight. Hope I helped a little. Good luck and God Bless you.

I took it for a couple of years - maybe less than two - WHAT A WEIGHT-GAINER! It worked well enough but I kept gaining and gaining and gaining. I went from about 135 to 170. I finally drew the line and demanded something different. Lithium and Risperdol worked fine for me after that.

All i comprehend is that I certainly have been tremendously plenty mandated to outlive lithium for something of eternity. i do no longer do great at an identical time as on it, yet I do a hell of plenty extra effective ON it than OFF it. Depakote has by no potential been suggested. besides... lithium has finished properly for me, in spite of the shown fact that the decrease the dose the extra manic-y i'm, and the better the dose the extra numb i've got faith.

Sorry I don't know about Depakote, I take Geodon and it works immediatly, and it doesn't make you gain weight. Maybe you can ask your Doctor to try something else...
