Almost every weekend my mom takes me to see a movie. she says something like let's see this movie before i want to say something. there are friends from high school that i want to hang out with. I don't mind going once in a while or every month. But every single weekend is sometimes too much. Sometimes it bugs me.i feel like i don't have freedom. im 21 and i want to do stuff on my own. does anyone have any ideas of what i can say?

Aren't you a little bit passive, there?

Why not tell her, without getting angry, that you already have plans BEFORE she asks you? Why not tell her on your way home from the movies next time?

Make some plans too, please.

just tell your mom that you need some weekends to yourself. She loves you and wants to spend time with you, so make sure you give her a little time every week (M-F) and 1 weekend a month. I don't knoe, but it sounds like you are an only child and your mom is scared you may grow up and forget about her. Be gentle, but be honest.

The trick here is distancing yourself but not hurting mom's feelings. SO.....you simply have to have plans for those weekends but leae one weekend open for her. Make it up by having lunch or something on a wednesday during the 3 weeks your not hitting the movies. Good luck.

I don't know if it's overprotective so much as she just really likes spending time with you, she probably is totally oblivious about your feelings on this. Just start by telling her in advanced, that you can't see a movie with her next week because you have plans with your friends. See how that goes, you might be surprised by how easy it is.

Yeah, tell your mother you're not a little kid anymore, and while you enjoy y'alls time together, you need freedom to hang with your friends as well. Compromise - Set a certain day to do family stuff, and the rest of your time you can hang with friends. Sounds to me like Mom doesn't want to let you go. Everyone grows up, it's life ... assure her that you're still going to be there.

She may be ,being that way or she is lonely her self. If she is single and she has spent most of her time with you she may just need some male friends her self. Now how would you feel about that? Oh yes, about the frist part of your question.Let her get it off her chest, maybe she`ll feel better and you two can get it out of the way.

be honest with your mom. she cant help it if she is overprotective. she loves you. wait until you have kids you will see. just tell her how you feel and set 1 day a week for the 2 of you to do something toghter.

i think you should let your mom know that you love to be with her every once in a while, but you would really like to explore new options with friends.(believe me i know how you feel) if she cares about you enough(which i'm sure she does) then she will understand. let her know how YOU feel, and not what most people on here are telling you.

hun, you need to tell her fast, you got your own life to lead now, it's nice once in a while but as you said, every week? na, you got to come clean and tell her that you want to do your own thing on weekends for now, you're a big girl now after all!

wow! your mom is over protective. your mom needs to understand that you are 21 yrs old. i know you don't want to hurt her feelings. i guess she feels good to go out with you. maybe you can talk to her and tell her how you feel. you don't want to stop hanging out with her. you just want some time to do what ever you want. she will understand.
