Me and my fiance want to elope on a certain day, but the court doesnt do weddings on that day, can we ask the court to back date it to that day as long as its with in a reasonable time ?

ie. The courts only do weddings on the first wednesday of the month. But we want it dated a week before, just so we can have the date as an anniversary. Will they do it ?

Nope. Why not have a private ceremony? Take the marriage license to a preacher and he can perform the ceremony in his office and you can wear jeans if you want. That way it's official on that day.

No, not from what I have seen. Courts are really percise and they have to be exact on things. That really sucks. I hope it works out. I would give them a call or stop in and ask. I wouldn't give up and just ask on here. This is what I think but different counties and states might be different. So, give them a call or stop in and see what they say. Good luck and I hope it works out. If not, then try not to worry about it too much. It's not really about the date that you get married on it is about the fact that you can get married at all and that you found your true love! Be very thankful for that. I know that there has to be a very good reason for wanting that date but don't let it ruin your wedding because that is a bad way to start a marriage! Good luck to you both! But, if you are really really wanting it on this day and it sounds like you do then go to a wedding chapel. I know it will probably cost a little bit more but not that much (I don't know cost and everything) and I don't know where you live. But go to the nearest one. Or find a church and see if the Pastor there will marry you and how much it will cost. I wouldn't give up if you really want this date!!

Probably not, just use the date you want as an anniversary or get another JP to perform the ceremony with just the two of you on that day. You could just wear a sundress and he could wear dress pants and a dress shirt. That way, you would have the date you want.

No, that is illegal. The date you are married is the date that will be on the certificate.

And even if they could back-date it, it still wouldn't be the day you got married, so wouldn't reflect your anniversary date anyway.

I truely doubt it. Everything about a marriage has to be very legally done. Including the actual date of marriage being recorded when it happens. Good Luck! :)

I doubt it. Go to a different county. They may have different rules.
