I want to take a day trip to nearby art museum. It's only two hours / 100 miles away.

The only problem is, I don't want to go alone, for saftey reasons, as well as having the pleasure of sharing the experience with someone.

I don't have any friends or acquaintances I can ask to join me. Should I just give up on the idea, or should I risk going by myself?

Go by yourself! Think of it as a wonderful adventure!!! I went to London alone a number of years ago and I loved the freedom of being able to spend as much time as I wanted studying the things I was interested in instead of being hurried by a companion.
Besides, once you get home, you can brag about how awesome the trip was and maybe one of the jealous pals will want you to be their tour guide;)

Contact your local senior center. There are probably lots of folks there who would love to go with you but can no longer drive. You'll make a new friend, learn someone's life story, and be enriched in the process. I'm sure you can request either a male or a female, whichever you are most comfortable with!

Go by yourself, you might end up meeting someone new with the same interest as you. If not, that's OK too.

Go alone. Codependency is a prison.
