We have a Shih Tzu and we couldn't imagine our lives without her. However these breeds do require regular health checkups and grooming and they are prone to ear infections. If you purchase a regular ear wash and treat their ears once a week it does help keep infections down. We have never had a problem with eyes or her nose but have been told that sometimes this breed does have problems breathing. If you have the time and love to dedicate to a dog then Shih Tzus make a great breed but they are not dogs you can just leave alone for a most of the day. They require a lot of attention but they are completely worth it.

Well i don't know about Lhasa Apso's but i have two shih tzu's and they are extremely tempremental, but totally lovely. In all ways they are like people. they have their good days and their bad. sometimes they feel like being bothered and sometimes they don't. But most times they love to be held and rubled and be right up under you. And seeing that shih tzu's are a mix of Lhasa Apso's and Pekinese, i would guess that Lhasa Apso's have some of the same qualities as a shih tzu, but a shih tzu is smaller.

I have a male Lhasa Apso. He's pretty healthy, but rather independent. He doesn't need to be around people to be happy. Sometimes he'll even go upstairs by himself and play with his toys. It's not that he's unfriendly, but he doesn't fawn all over you and act like he worships the ground you walk on. He also is wary of strangers, but Lhasa Apsos were bred to be watchdogs so that's normal. I think Shih Tzus are bred to be companion dogs and are usually friendly to everyone they meet. I'm not sure if they are as healthy as Lhasa Apsos since I've never owned one.

I've not found much difference in my experience with my 7 1/2 pound Shih Tzu or my 24 pound Lhasa mix. They both were/are very loving, I think I get more kisses from my Lhasa than I did from my Shih Tzu. The Lhasa is more protective of his territory - he barks at anybody passing by the house.

I would say the Shih Tzu. Small dogs have really big personalities. Rarer breeds, like the Lhasa Apso, tend to have a lot of imbreeding. That's why they don't live as long as other more common breeds or mutts.

They are both quite loving dogs, however health wise I would reccomend neither. If you like smaller dogs, look at Tibetan Spaniels. Both Shih Tzus and Lhasa Apsos can have terrible breathing and eye problems due to the "squishy face".

hi. it is Lhasa Apso. humorous, we had a similar journey because of the fact while Max-my Lhasa Apso dogs replaced right into a doggy, he's greater gorgeous than a shih tzu yet he grew up better than the shih tzu. yet I no regrets. he's an extremely candy dogs and has admirable intellegence. He brings his collar while he desires to stroll outdoors and while im unhappy hell convey his toy and play capture with we. he's a good dogs.

Lhasa apso. Lhasa's have a very very long life span. They usually can live up to 15 years. Some can even live up to about 20 years. I have a lhasa and she is a big baby. SHe has never hurt any thing and would never try. She gets along great with kids and other dogs and strangers. She is also protective. Lhasa's tend to respond to their owners voice. If a stranger comes and I talk to them in a friendly manner, my lhasa is fine with them and licks them to death. SHe knows who is okay and who isn't. SHe is a very good dog. My lhasa loves attention and loves playing so if you get one, you will need to make sure you have plenty of time to spend with your lhasa.

Shih Zu for sure! We have had all sorts of dogs but this little girl we have now, going on 2 years is a pure joy! She is the sweetest dog we have ever owned! she has me wrapped around her every wish - i keep her trimmed in a teddy bear trim (medium short) and it is no big deal to brush her a bit every day (or so!) She follows me around the house and in the yard - (like a second heel!) and does not like to entertain herslf - that is MY job! she is a doll around kids - and sits quiet with old folks (even at 19 months) If I had met these little dogs before i had kids - I would have just had shih zu's!!!!!!!
