seems like you should have maybe thought about this before now. get her comfortable and get a whelping box for her. a nice box lined with sheets or towels/blankets for her to whelp the puppies in, make sure it's in a quiet area of your home. watch her for the signs of labor, panting, abdominal contractions. if for any reason you are worried about something call/go to the vet.

you get her spayed, or you plan the litter, find homes for the pups before you have her mated, then get any health tests done, choose a stud dog carefull. During the 63 day pregnancy you inform the vet of the due date so he can be prepared and in the meantime, feed her twice a day with nutritious food with plenty of calcium and protein, then read all you can about the process of birth and what to look out for in case of emergency. Oops, silly me, you say she is imminent and you have done none of the aforementioned? Well how stupid are you? Just hope the poor creature survives the birth.

Your ***** will start scratching and raking over her bedding when she is geting ready to whelp (give birth) she will attend to her puppies on her own but be there to reassure her but don't interfere. She will clean the puppy and sever the chord keep an eye on each puppy as it is born andmake sure she doesn't roll on it. You are best to let her deliver them on newspaper as it can be very messy. Please make sure you count all the afterbirths, she will eat some of them, but this is important for if one is retained she could be in very great trouible and you must get the vet a.s.a.p Nearly all births go very well don't try to give her food but make sure she has clean water she will help herself don't force her. This will be an anxious time for her and you but it will be very rewarding. Good luck. Please make sure the pups go to good homes it's dead easy to mate a ***** and equally so easy to be left with an unwanted litter. Please consider having her spayed there are so many dogs in rescue centres.

Hi Corrinne
Just keep an eye on her,, she should be showing sign of making a place comfy for her to have her pups, Sometimes the need a little help,, so be prepared to help her,, as the pups come along get a towel and rub them till they make a little noise and put them back to there mother,,, If you dog is having problems pushing out one of her puppies help her along by pulling gently. She will do most of it on her own but may need a little help

Get an experienced breeder to help you. Make sure you set up a Whelping Room. A picture and tips I use myself are here: http://www.leerburg.com/whelpingroom.htm
Good luck with the pups, but be sure to have a friend or two on hand for puppy rubbing and definately someone there that can help medically (make friends with a vet tech or experienced breeder and get them to come over as soon as she begins going into labor). There is not much I could explain online, this is a learning by experience thing.

Little late to be sorting that out now.
Have you built a whelping box with puppy rails so that mommy doesn't roll over and crush some pups????
Do you have a vet on stand-by in case there is a problem and she needs a C section???
Do you have a means of keeping the puppy's warm enough
Do you know how to clean a puppy
Do you know how to clear their lungs
Shall I go on???????
pic of whelping box
I made mine from shelving material from Home Depot

basically the same thing that you would do if your dog were a human woman that was about to give birth. You try to make her as comfortable as possible, and let her make herself a little corner of covers and such. YOu should also get a vet if you don't already have one, because once those puppies get here, they will have to be checked by a vet. so, Congrats & Good Luck!!

She will start to nest herself ,,,but get a comfortable place for her to do this,, watch her and when it starts watch and she will do all the work,, if the pups come out in there sacks let her try and break it herself, if she cant then help but put it back as quickly as you can,,,if one is born not breathing gently rub it with a warm towel if it dies take it away and don't let her see it,,, she will keep licking them,, this is just to make them poo and wee she will eat all the sacks and stuff don't think she is trying to eat the pup,,,just keep a watch on her that she don't lay down on top of them and don't let anyone near or touch the pups for at lease 2 weeks you will see who she trusts let them keep a check on the pups to make sure everything is ok,,,,,,,,,i hope this helps,,,
ps... call a vet if you think she is having difficulty,,,,

my dog just had puppies. just keep checking on her, especially the first one, but she should do everything herself. Make sure she is somewhere warm, we used a heat lamp. If you do have problems ring the vet they can give very good help over the phone

Give her a nice quiet corner with a big comfortable box with some kind of absorbant material in it...a whelping box, & leave her alone. Most dogs need no help. If time passes & nothing happens, & she looks unhappy or in pain, call vet.
It couldn't hurt to call vet to let him know what is happening, maybe they have more/better info for you.
