Well, if you bring a lot you will have to tote it through the airport, to them, and then back to the car.
I would suggest some cold bottled water and cleansing wipes. These would be quite refreshing and easy to carry.
In the car you can have some crackers and fruit or other light, easily transportible snacks.
If you plan an actual gift, like a gift basket, wine, or local food, set that up with where they are staying, or in their room if they are staying with you.
This minimizes the hauling of stuff for both you and them.
Good luck!

Have the guest room ready, and as comfy as you can, have the bathroom clean and ready. You will want to stock a variety of snacks and drinks, so when they get there, look at them, and ask, do you need a bath and a nap, how about a snack to hold you until the next meal? I have lemonade, ice tea, cookies and name off what you have. Let them choose. I can't think of anything I would like better than a cool, refreshing drink, a little snack,a shower and a nap after a long flight.
Make a little welcome basket and put it in their room, some apples, oranges, bags of nuts, breakfast bars, that sort of thing, so they can help themselves, and not have to ask. Keep some bottled drinks, like juice, water, soda whatever you know they like, and keep it in the refrig, invite them to grab some whenever.
If they are not tired, a quick driving tour of the immediate neighborhood, note the nearest drug and grocery stores to them, tell them for just in case, and invite them to tell you about anything they might need, like, see how close the drug store is? I f you need something, tell me! And a tour of the kitchen and your house is nice, too. Show them where you keep the bread, snacks.
A welcome gift could be something local, or ethnic,a small basket of shells, the snack basket, some cuban spices, something they could take home easily in a suitcase, and still have room for the things they will pick out. Have some brochures or post cards of local attractions, some magazines or articles about the area. Buy a driving map of the area.
Have a great visit!

The first thing they'll want is a cup of hot tea. Make sure you boil that water. Then they will want some privacy to unpack, get their bearings, take out the gifts they brought for you. They probably won't want a big dinner after snacking all day, so an array of sandwiches, fruits, cheese would go down nice - looks nice too.
Your gift to them - baseball caps of some Miami team - welcoming, thoughtful, practical and something to keep. Also, if they don't have sunglasses, they will be needing those too. A few brochures of interesting places they might want to visit on their trip, and a map, don't forget the map.

Understanding is the most important thing you can give them. The meals on flights are often horrible, there is rarely enough liquid refreshments, and it is often difficult to rest comfortably. Therefore, they're going to be hungry, thirsty, and tired (perhaps even sleepy if it's bedtime back home). Try to take care of these needs as quickly and as smoothly as possible. They will likely notice, remember, and truly appreciate, the efforts your entire family made to do exactly that.
Beyond that, don't worry so much about getting them an item. Instead, make sure there is plenty to do that interests them. After all, they will remember the things you and they did long after an item is gone.

simply ask yourself what would you like after the long flight.
Most would say a shower.but the next thing you want is to relax so a how about a spa( if you can afford to accomodate) or invite them to have a stroll down the beach and have some cool beer/cocktails at the beach and just relax for a while before heading elsewhere always give them time to rest rather than hustle them around the city.too much rushing makes ppl tired out easily.been there done that.

They're coming from Ireland, which is rather cool this time of year, and will be arriving in Miami, which is warm. They'll be wary from the flight.
How about a couple of Miami T-shirts, some cool wipes, maybe even washcloths and soap, deodorant/cologne, shaving cream & razor, sunscreen, etc. Meet them at baggage claim and while waiting for their luggage, they can go into the rest room, freshen up, put on the clean shirt, and be ready for the Miami experience.
I remember traveling to the Caribbean in the winter. I traveled in jeans and a long-sleeved shirt. It was hot and humid when we arrive at the airport and I was melting by the time we got to the hotel, checked in, and reached our room.

I'd have a nice cool, comfortable bedroom waiting for them, with a fan of some kind, preferably with their own bath, but that's pretty outrageous. Make sure the linens are of good quality, fresh pillows, nice microfiber blanket and a pretty, light cotton quilt that is fresh. Fresh towels and soap in the bathroom and make sure there's plenty of toilet paper handy. Put together a little snack basket for their room--grapes, apples, other fruit that you lke, cheese and crackers, tortilla chips and salsa, whatever you like, and one of those little tubs you can fill with ice with chilled soda, beer, a bottle of wine, water and some nice glasses. Trash can, clock radio, little TV, a place to stow their clothes, with hangers. Robes would be nice, but that's going a little too far. Put them to bed and feed them a nice breakfast when the get up. Or if they aren't tired, sit around the kitchen table, drink coffee or tea and eat some cake, drink beer and eat some chips and dip, veggies if you feel healthy and catch up. Will they have eaten dinner. (My world seems to revolve around feeding people.) Enjoy each other's company.

How about a Driver and Limo waiting for them at the Airport ready to take them on a little "scenic" tour of Miami on their way to the hotel/your house/wherever they are staying. Perhaps a bottle of Champaign and some Chocolate Covered Strawberries waiting for them in the Limo as well. It would be a nice little hour or so relaxing time.
