Brent the best counter puncher I ever saw was Roberto Duran particularly in his fight vs Iran Barkley. His counter right hand had perfect timing. The other fighter that I considered a great counter puncher was Alexis Arguello.

I'd have to say Ali, Ray Robinson, Ray Leonard, James Toney and Roy Jones. All of them could make you miss and make you pay for missing!

Although most people here are saying Ali, I'd say Bernard Hopkins, Pernell Whitaker, and James Toney are much better examples because of the way they set up their opponents.

my vote goes to james toney any fighter who can jump from middleweight to heavyweight stand in front of his opponent give as good as he gets and more with little movement. the duran barkley fight was a masreful art of counterpunching by duran as well.
