I've seen people say this, and then quote a Bible verse almost word for word as something they believe. I understand not believing in God, but I think the Bible has a lot of wisdom and truth in how it instructs people to live. Many people agree with this, calling the Bible a great book of wisdom, or Jesus, a great teacher.

Please read the whole question. These answers don't answer it. I'm asking about the use of the word "No" . They acknowledge things in it as true, but then say it contains "No truth." Not Some truth, which would seem more accurate.

People say it contains no truth because they have found some inaccuracies, edits, alterations, additions, etc and throw the baby out with the bathwater.

Here's truth, in the beginning, God created the heavens and the Earth.

But did do it in seven days or did he take his time? Did he let it evolve, MAKE it evolve, or go POOF? Was he patient or was he impatient? Was he the creative architect or did he simply command it and leave the details to little angels?

The argument is in the details. Of course the Bible contains truth, much truth, especially SPIRITUAL truth. But don't look for too much historical truth there. Remember it was written using human hands and from the perspective of one culture, that of the Jews. If you can do that, then you will discover all the truth you wish to discover.

Sees the bible as more a collection of parables intended to teach lessons. It that respect it is very much like greek and roman mythology and it does serve some purpose in doing that. However, the are a great many people who fail to see it this way and insist that it is the infallible word of some god and they tend to take the parables of the bible literally. If you call the bible a great book of wisdon then so must you also put ancient greek, roman, even native american mythology into the same catagory.

There are some passages from the Gospel that I like, esp. this part about the plank in your own eye and the speck in your brothers eye and also that you should love your enemies (although I think love is a too strong word for this, but it is right that you should not hate enemies and understand they are humans like you), or when it says "love your neighbor as yourself".
But I must say that I don't see much truth in the rest of the Bible, there is so much violence and so many old stories that aren't true and so much of theology that makes no sense to me.

Because the bible was written by men, and for men. There is no real truth in it, not the truth of God. People can never get their stories straight, so I highly, HIGHLY, doubt that the bible is still the same as it was, word for word, in the beginning.

It's probably because they have become aware of the contradictions and absurdities found within the Bible. A good place for you to start exploring this is at the Skeptics annoted bible site: http://www.skepticsannotatedbible.com/

Because they don't believe every word the Bible says. One of the Ten commandments is to honor thy father and mother. But I already broke that commandment. Does that mean I am going to go to hell when I die? I know that I am suppose to obey my parents, but my parents didn't know what was right for me. I didn't want to work in a retail store, but my parents thought that was the right position for me. How was it right when I am not enthusiastic & most of the majority of the retail positions the customers treat the person who assisted them like dirt. I am not dirt. So how is that right?

certainly it does not basically "say so" - it truly is an atheists shallow scholarship for you. it supplies historic examples of what befell to those that disobeyed and it supplies classes and regulations interior of which you will stay and prosper. of direction it quite is old now. yet once you think approximately the reality that many have lived particularly thankfully with it for hundreds of years then you quite can not truly push aside it thoroughly; to any extent further than you may push aside the origins of species as an "old old e book". you apart from would can not study all holy books to any extent further than you may study all biology books. there is very lots of difference in them and the matters they hide as they are for various a while and peoples. yet i do no longer think of your confirmation bias permit you to work out that. Your no longer attracted to "certainty" basically your very own delusions and machinations.
