Schools in California now offer salad bars, milk, and other healthy options. I heard rumors of schools planning on removing soda and unhealthy candy/snacks available to students (elementary school, middle school, high school) but the only action I have seen taken, was time restrictions on when the soda/candy would be available (before school, during breaks, lunch, and after school-rather than during class)

I researched and found this article: maybe you'll find it to be helpful?

The sad answer is yes. I'm a 14 year old and I'm moving, so I'm not in school today. I've lived all over, California, Iowa, Illinois, Arizona, and Nevada. I've gone to over 15 schools and all of them have had soda availiable. Even though districts deny it, they are there. You have no clue how truly messed up the school system is. If reporters were allowed to be in schools, the nation would be terrified of what goes on.

Most districts are pulling soda machines out of the schools. As a parent you have a right to know what's in your kids' school... so call them.

Yes. All the Junior High & High schools in my state have soda and candy vendors through out the school. My freshman daughter has began to skip lunch and hit the snack machines with her friends....*sigh*

Here in Michigan they're taking it out of the schools. What they don't realize is a lot of the juices that they're still allowed to sell are just as bad because they're LOADED with high fructose corn syrup, just like soda. Now, if they'd just get rid of those too...and all the snack cakes and cookies and pies that are LOADED with trans fat...

Not in most elementary schools, they serve milk and juice. High school and Junior high schools mostly have soda available but also have choices such as juice.

A lot of schools are doing away with pop machines, or only selling diet pop, juice and water. Pop has way too much sugar in it and kids get too tired after the sugar wears off.
