I have a really bad cold, I lost my voice, I'm coughing like a smoker, and my nose is running all over the place. Should I call off work tonight? It's only a short 5 hour shift. Would you go to work like that?

(retail store)

Don't go to work - have plenty of rest and drink plenty of fluids. Take cough/cold medicine if needed.

The question is - is this cold impeding you from working? If the answer is yes, call your manager and let them know. If you are only using it as an excuse not to go to work - stop complaining, drink honey, lemon and hot water and make your way to work!

Yes call in sick, you do not want to spread your cold to the rest of the employees, they may not be happy at first but in the long run it is better. It is better that employees call in when they are sick, instead of everyone calling in sick and the whole place is off sick.

Since you are working in a retail store, CUSTOMERS complain a lot about the people who serve them. so please go home or else you might never know when you encountered a customer with a very bad attitude that might complain to your boss and that your boss might be thinking of firing you for spreading germs around.

Yes! If I were a manager, I will send back anyone that is sick. It may infect other employee and coworker.

And if you work in retail, that will deter customers.

So stay home.

depends on what type of retail store. I'm sure Nordstrom or J.Crew wouldn't want you there. Rave, on the otherhand, would probably be glad to have you.

Take "Dayquil" or Thera-flu.

Then get your butt to work. My mom used to say,"2/3 rds of the worlds work is done by sick people"

When payday comes you'll be glad.

You are no doubt contagious ... fewer people will become ill if you don't share. Take a break...a rotten cold like this needs tender, loving, care...chicken soup, hot bath, hot toddy...sleep, sleep, sleep.

If you work in customer service YES! If you do not interact with people (programmer) maybe not. Take your meds to either way!! Get Better!! :-)
