My conscience mixed with consequences. There are times that one will do something that they dread the consequences (like speeding down the highway) but it's not something they risk all the time because of the consequences. I only used speeding as an example... I realize one has to use disclaimers for damn near everything they post in here.

You're right, but i wouldn't go restricting it to just Christians. Atheists are like this too - why don't they murder, steal, rat on their own government? If they get caught, the consequences are disasterous. Everyone is like that and i think it could be a good reason why 'morality' developed - people fear consequences.

this would be a stable and truthful question. The regulation's of our land are based on the judeo-christian regulation's, extra in specific, the ten Commandments. The question, is in the tip, what style of usa and society can we could be? enable something? Or have some theory of ideal and incorrect, and characteristic a land this is truthful, in basic terms and a stable place for persons to have families. that doesn't recommend that we could be impolite or hurtful to human beings we disagree with, or harm them because of the fact they do no longer stay or weren't born the comparable way. i've got not got an answer, because of the fact if it is not government's job to set ideal and incorrect, then who does? What evil's can we enable in the call of freedom, and what sturdy's can we overlook approximately because of the fact it is not known?

Are you limiting "don't get caught" to this-world consequences? Because I thought one of the main driving forces of Christian morality was the threat of punishment in the afterlife, and there's no escaping God's watchful eye - whatever you do, you're going to get caught.

I'd like to say I was always moral because I wanted to, but no, I'm not that good. I frequently do go to work on time, because I don't want to be fired, or go to bed early because I don't want to be tired in the morning.
I suppose we're all that way no matter what our beliefs are. We're aiming for the doing good because we want to, but frequently settle for the doing good because we don't want a bad consequence.

As an agnostic, I never intentionally hurt people. It's not consequences, its concience.
