Just for the record, it's potassium that's the most important for keeping leg cramps away. Yes, magnesium is also important, but if the lack of a nutrient is causing leg cramps, more often than not, it's potassium.

As for helping your cramp, I'm sure it has long since gone away, either with the passage of time or from the recommendations of the other answerers. I just wanted to share my 2 cents' worth. :) Good luck!

If it was really an emergency, would you be asking Yahoo! or calling 911. 911 I hope. Go to the hospital if it's that bad. The medical doctors here are few and far between.

Give your body some time to absorb the pills. I'm not sure magnesium will help that much, as others have noted, but even if it's potassium, you aren't injecting it into the muscles that are cramping, you're swallowing them. You've got to digest things you swallow and it takes some time...digestion is why you don't go play soccer or something after eating a meal. You've got to wait, just like with pills.

Walk it off. I know that sounds ridiculous but it works. I get really bad cramps that start in my big toe and then works all the way up the back of my leg and the only way to make it stop is to start walking around to make my leg muscles go straight. Hope it works!! Try some potassium too!!

Water and some potassium. Stretch gradually and slowly extend the knee downwards. Shift your weight to one side. If it's bad, raise your knee when you sleep. If the pain is still there tomorrow, go see a chiropractor.

It's what i call a charley horse you have to walk it off... its a lactic acid build up in your leg which means your muscle is contacting over and over again because your body produced to much lactic acid.. i know it hurts but the best thing is to slowing walk on it, good luck hon!

NOT an emergency.

Drink some orange juice or eat a banana. Sounds like you are low on potassium.

Then put a heating pad on it and stretch it out.

Stand on that leg. Make sure your foot is flat on the floor and don't move till the pain goes away.

It might be that the blood cannot circulate to your leg. Do some leg stretching on your leg and even toes

if your leg is still cramping, your back could be out of place, the only way to really find out is to go to a chiro.

Stretch it out. that's how cramps are formed. Contraction of the muscle. Emergency?!?!?!
