many members of their extended family did they supposedly leave behind? Seems kind of cruel, doesn't it?

what is more important when someone points at the moon and says "look!" his hand and finger or the moon?
Yes, Mudcat, I never actually thought of it that way but it does seem kind of cruel.
At the same time though think of this : people around the world are being asked to search their heart and soul for the right path back to our source, our sustainer but a lot of them just don't believe for the sake of avoiding being ridiculed or alienated by their peers or worse, just because there is no "proof". Isn't it kind of a self-imposed cruelty to not search for answers and gain wisdom for the sake of their soul?
What is this maniacal impulse to deny an answer just because the word "God" is within that answer? Perhaps the problem is not the explaination but the one who hears that explaination. Perhaps if the hearer could be open-minded enough to translate for himself the word "God" into a broader definition and allow personal experiences, science, intuition, feelings and understanding to shape that definition, one would maybe see that although Noah was 600 years old, maybe he ONLY had 3 sons and his sons their wives.
Maybe in the time of writing, women were not considered as important as to be included as Noah's sons' daughters and grand-daughters but the likelier explaination is this :
The Bible, like the Qur'an or Torah or Vedas.... are not historical books and do not pretend to live up to historical scrutiny. They are a way to a path, hence the reader should not indiscriminately dismiss what the books are trying to say just based on some technicality.
And yes, when you compare the story of Noah, or any other story for that matter, with your own mortality and eternity, what those stories tell are technicalities... They are for me.

World population growth rate in recent times is about 2% per year. Practicable application of growth rate throughout human history would be about half that number. Wars, disease, famine, etc. have wiped out approximately one third of the population on average every 82 years. Starting with eight people, and applying these growth rates since the Flood of Noah's day (about 4500 years ago) would give a total human population at just under six billion people. However, application on an evolutionary time scale runs into major difficulties. Starting with one "couple" just 41,000 years ago would give us a total population of 2 x 1089. 9 The universe does not have space to hold so many bodies.

No God knew what would happen if the rest didnt parish so it must have been something really bad that was going to happen.
God makes no plans in a rush. He did what he did to protect all of us that are living now. Can you imagine what the world would be like now if all those people who had been surving the devil were still here.

There would probably be no life left here except for evil.

Not if they choose to ignore the warnings, than their fate was of their own choosing.

Plus, long life also mean children born over a much longer period of time, not just in the first 40 years like now. As such, less children, cousins, etc.
