If you're in the U.S. and are trying to get away from the winter weather (cold), the best places to go would be where the season is the exact opposite. This would be places like Australia, New Zealand, Malaysia, etc... the other side of the earth.
If you're looking to travel in the U.S. and want to get away from the cold, you can always go to Hawaii. It's nice that time of year. You can also go to Southern California, if you don't want to travel across the ocean. The weather in Southern California is nice all year round. Take your pick from San Diego, Laguna Beach, Huntington Beach, and Palm Springs. They are all lovely vacation spots and have "touristy" sites close by.
Happy travels! :-)

Give Colorado a try. There is skiing and snow mobile trails in the mountains. Great dining and places to stay in Colorado Springs and Denver. Visit the Royal Gorge, Garden of The Gods. Take a trip to the Cheyenne mountain zoo and Seven falls. They have a free night where everything is lit up and cocoa and hot beverages are served. The list is endless.
If Colorado does not interest you try picking a state and put in a Yahoo search with the name and chamber of commerce. You can ask them to send you literature and fliers too for what is going on in the area.

It is best to experience the Christmas holidays in the Philippines. Christmas songs starts to be played over the radio in September. Most of the places have lanterns in the streets. The malls and churches are well decorated. Catholic masses are usually at dawn starting on the 16th of December.

Wherever your family or friends live. If you travel to be with your family, have a great plan in mind. Cook for them (introduce them to a new dish) look through old family albums, help your folks with something that is hard for them to do. Make it a "service" as well as a celebration. if you do want to get away, a friend told me Germany is the best place to be for Christmas as they celebrate full throttle.

Goa, India. Its just the right temperature and the flowers are out so it looks very beautiful this time of year. It's cheap, the people are lovely and you can scrub an elephant in the jungle!
