Turnip "Fries"
4 turnips
1/2 tsp grated nutmeg
1tsp ground pepper
4 tablespoons fresh grated parmesan cheese
Olive oil
1 tablespoon lime juice
peel turnips and cut into french fry size strips. Put spices, cheese and turnips in zip top bag and shake to coat. Put turnips on a lightly greased cookie sheet in single layer and brush with olive oil and bake for about 30 minutes until tender and golden brown. when done sprinkle with lime juice if you want

Do you know wasabe, the hot green Japanese mustard that is served with sushi?
I've had wasabe mashed potatoes, how about wasabe mashed turnips? Potatoes are _great_ that way ... not entirely sure the bitterish taste of turnips would go with the mustard, but you could give it a try ahead of time and deep six it if it didn't work, or tinker with the proportions if it seemed like it was a go.
Another thing I thought of would be to steam the turnips a bit ahead of time so they weren't too crunchy, and saute them, cubed, in a light curry sauce. Perhaps with a little onion, red bell pepper, and/or celery for color and flavor?
Wasabe and curry aren't traditional Thanksgiving flavors, but hey, you are looking for something new, no? If they weren't done too spicy, I think either might fit in with the more traditional fare.
BTW: I've seen some of your answers on occasion and thought they were very well put.

this one won't help for this dinner as it requires the oven but I will give it to you an may;be you can tryit another time. I got my kids to eat turnip by makeing turnip pie (no crust required) I cooked the turnip until good and soft then used the electric egg beater and whipped it with butter salt and pepper (sugar if you like it sweet) and one egg. then pat it all into a pie plate. put in the oven for about 50 minutes aprox. the texture is totally different and nice my kid hated turnip growing up but would eat it this way. give it a try some time.

Lemon Carrots and Rutabaga
INGREDIENTS
4 medium carrots, cut into 3-inch julienne strips (about 2 cups)
1 small rutabaga (10 ounces), peeled and cut into 3-inch julienne strips (about 2 cups)
1/2 cup water
2 tablespoons butter
1 tablespoon brown sugar
1 tablespoon lemon juice
1/2 teaspoon grated lemon peel
1/4 teaspoon dill weed
SERVINGS 5
METHOD Other stovetop PREP 5 min. COOK 20 min.
TOTAL 25 min.
DIRECTIONS
In a large saucepan, combine the carrots, rutabaga and water. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat to medium; cover and cook for 13-15 minutes. Meanwhile, in a small saucepan, combine the remaining ingredients; cook, uncovered, over medium heat for 2-3 minutes or until butter is melted.
Drain vegetables; add butter mixture. Cook for 3-4 minutes or until vegetables are glazed, stirring occasionally. Yield: 5 servings.

Hey Kelly whats a matter with the same old boring stuff were used to........lol we had turnip too and ill i did was boil it and put some butter on it when i ate it. no one here likes it except me.
