my daughter's second birthday is really close and I'm thinking that the baby toys must go and give give room for new ones, any ideas for toys in general and of course which toy kitchen is better on your opinion for a two year old?

I just bought one for my 2-year-old son -- it's the Little Tikes Cookin' Sounds Gourmet Kitchen. He LOVES it -- and I love it because it's kind of slim, so it doesn't take up a lot of space. It has a sink, an oven, and a microwave oven, which he loves. Takes things in and out, says he's cooking them, puts plates in the sink because they're "dirty." The range makes noise, like a sizzling pan or a boiling pot of water.

It retails for $70 but I just bought mine from Craig's List for $35. If you're in a city that Craig's List serves, I would highly recommend checking it out...there were tons of toy kitchens for sale in my area.

Here's the kitchen:

As far as other ideas for toys -- I think anything like this where they use their imagination is good. The other things he loves is his train table. He can play trains on it, or remove the train mat and play with Play-Doh on it, or add the Legos sheets and play Legos on it.

Keep in mind that anything you buy is going to be destroyed very quickly lol. Anything with small pieces will get lost fast. My kids have a toy kitchen and they have ripped the doors off it, and all the pieces to it are gone now. I never buy anything for them without knowing that it will probably get lost or broken, therefore I don't buy really nice things lol. I know it would be a waste of money. You can't go wrong with baby dolls even if she already has one, get one with a stroller even my son loves to push it around. If you are going to do the kitchen thing make sure it's a nice one, not the cheap ones you have to put together yourself. That way it may stand some chance of staying intact for at least a while. Does she have some kind of ride on bike thing? My son loves his and it has buttons on it that make music. 2 yr olds love anything that makes music and lights. I got him one of those leap frog pianos it's supposed to help them with colors and sounds. He loves it. I know I've got a million other ideas but this is what I can come up with for now hope it helps at all.

My almost 2 year old has a hand me down Step 2 play kitchen that she absolutly adores! I would browse around on eBay as they can get pretty pricey in the stores. I got her a box of 200 pieces of play food for about $8 at Toys R Us too. She is 21mos old and VERY into pretend already.

Best of luck. She is also into dump trucks and monster trucks and little cars too.

The Little Tykes are the best for durability. You can use them outside if you eventually get a playhouse or need space in her room. I've never had a Little Tykes crack or break and they go through hell with all my kids friends. We also have the talking one that someone above mentioned (it's not Little Tykes) and it comes with a bunch of stuff. My little girl really liked it but it's small and she grew out of it pretty quick. Also the Little Tykes always has good resale value at a garage sale.

I've seen some great kitchens at Tosyrus.......most over $100 or even $200 because they have electronic sounds and lots of extras to it........my daughter is turning two also and we're planning to buy her one also. And yes....out with the baby toys and in with other ones!

And I always believe in books........all kinds......any kinds.....
Also musical instruments.....not the real thing but drums, piano, flute/recorder.....my daughter loves those always plays with those.
Also the crayola markers or fingerpaints that only colour on the special paper........as well as playdoh......

Those are my suggestions!

have fun!

Yep. There is a talking stove/oven that you can get that's perfect for a two year old. Check any toy store and they should be able to show you that. The same line also makes a talking charcoal grill and who knows what else. great stuff!

There is a new one by Little Tikes, I saw it in Walmart. Our friends two year old has one and absolutely loves it. It is in the colors of green, maroon, and beige. Very cute!
My two year old has a little tikes one but it is a few years old, we got it at a child's second hand store so we saved some bucks. She loves it too. It was very clean and nice.

I got my little one a kitchen at 2 it was just a cheaper one, but she wasn't interested in it at all. She plays with it now that she is 4, but back then she wasn't to into it.
I would recommend LeapFrog products, they are fun and educational. My daughter has loved all of her leapfrog things and they last forever!

Look through the papers and find one on sale. They are all great and the children have a great time with all of them. Your wallet will be happy and so will the kid. Besides, the kids will play with the box before they play with the kitchen. :)
