It means it's your secret weapon that you can take out and use when you need to "win" or get something that you want. It comes from card games like euchre, pinochle, or bridge where one suit is named as the "trump" or "special suit." In these games you are required to play whatever suit is led, so if the first player throws a diamond, you MUST play a diamond if you have one. If you don't, you can throw ANY card from the "trump" suit and win the trick, as long as no one else throws a higher "trump" card (but remember, if diamonds were led everyone MUST throw a diamond if they have one).
