I take 30 mg. of amitriptyline every night at bedtime as a migraine preventive--I started having migraines after brain surgery in 2004--but it hasn't had any affect on my fibromyalgia pain. I take 800 mg. of Aleve and a 1000-mg. flaxseed oil capsule every night at bedtime for pain management and use a homeopathic herb called Arnica as needed for pain flareups. Check out the link below for information on various homeopathic remedies.

I have taken Amiltriptyline for chronic nerve pain but didn't seem to get much relief. I am now on Oxycontin and Lyrica. I also take Actiq for breakthrough pain. My daughter also took the Amiltriptyline for chronic back pain also with no success.

Yes, and I was not happy with it.
I was mis-diagnosed with fibromeyealgia, and one of the treatment protocols for fibro, as well as other chronic pain (especially in women) is anti-anxiety meds that have a sleepy side effect.
For some people it works, for me, I hated it. It did not diminish my pain, and had the effect of making me feel dull and dead.
If you have chronic pain, as your MD for a referral to a chronic pain management team, and a chronic pain multi disciplinary evaluation- you get a work up , usually taking several hours by multiple doctors who specialize in pain management.
Ideally they do blood work, any x-rays/mri's you need, take a detailed history and do a psych evaluation- the goal is of course to get the most accurate diagnosis possible and create the most workable pain treatment protocol that works for you-
good luck.

I have. It's not so much for pain, but to make sure you can get proper sleep with pain. Your pain may be reduced because your muscles are allowed to rest while you are sleeping. But it's not really a pain killer.
It made me very tired during the day, and I had a really hard time getting up in the morning while I was taking it.

To be honest. I have vulvodynia and other conditions and i was prescribed 10 mg for the nerve pain. I honestly think it doesn't work and its been a couple months. I think it is more geared towards bone pain etc. Anything with nerve pain it "should" help SUPPOSEDLY.
