50th anniversary is the "Gold" anniversary, so perhaps a gold photo frame with a picture from the wedding in it (not THE wedding photo, but maybe a candid if you can find one, have it professionally enlarged if needed)

You Could get a branch, spray paint it gold and then glue it into a block of styrofoam, then attach 50 new crisp 1 $ bills to the end's of the branches with tiny gold ribbon.....makes a great conversational piece, or you could get a nice gold box (like a jewelry box) and fill it with 50 "Gold" dollar coin's. Forget all that "50th Anniversary" crap that is out there, like goblet's, frames, bowls, ect....they know how long they have been married, and why on earth would they want more knick-knacks to dust at their age, and useless glasses and bowls. If you cannot afford to spend 50$ for the money tree or gold box of coins, then buy a plain glass frame and put their 50th announcement in it, thats if you have no picture of them, or get them a girt certificate to a nice restaurant, or 5 small ones to some local shops by them, such as a drug store, grocery store, fruit market, baked goods store, you can still wrap up the certificates in a box along with your card. Be creative, the gift will mean more if you put some thought behind it rather than buying that "50th Golden Anniversary" junk. Have fun at the party!

I would take them to a nice restaurant and notify them ahead of time, so they could have a cake made for there 50th. If your already going somewhere for there 50th, YOU could always get them the popcorn cups(their inexpensive) and get them a gift certificate at a video store for rental of videos and put inside the cup and a bag of microwave popcorn in there. A great thing my daughter and son-in-law did for my husband and I for Xmas was they knew we liked Toby Keith and they got us concert tickets for sometime in March. It was a great enjoyable gift. I don't know how much you want to spend or details so these are just .some thoughts.

Get a copy of their wedding photo, and a current one. Put them together in a nice frame.
Something like that. They probabally have all the material things they could ever want!
I saw a quilt made for a 50th aniversary. It was a family tree and had a timy picture of everyone in the family. It was the most thoughtfull and beautiful gift I have ever seen!

Besides the traditional gift of gold, you should give them a handsomely printed parchment that commemorates the stamina, will-power, patience, tolerance, sacrifice, understanding, good will, good humor, support, protection, teaching, learning; all that is love, that has made their marriage last so productively.

This is their "golden" anniversary, so anything with that theme works. I think some goblets with gold trim or something like that would be nice!
