I went to 3 Burger Kings restaurants in one day and found that none of the employees wore gloves when handling the food and even picked meat up with their bare hands. I don't knowingly what a strangers DNA on my food.

As for SmartyPants, who feels my English is more important than my health and well-being, I say: Your mean, nasty, and have no fear or care of how your tongue affects others. I guess your mother didn't raise you with the saying that if you don't have something nice to say, shut up. Futhermore, you didn't answer the question. How does proper english relate to the proper handling of food? If this question was over your head, you shouldn't have answered.

Well, I am from northern New Jersey and the two burger Kings that are near me (Maplewood and East Orange), they ALWAYS wear gloves when serving and/ or making food. I have even seen one teller at the register wear gloves when handling money. So, I do not know where you live at but, I would see if other places in your area besides Burger King are doing the same thing they are. If they are, maybe in your state, they are not required (even though I would think that ALL states that have any type of fast food restaurants-or, restaurants in general-requires by law to be protected). I would then call the local health department and make an inquiry about that.

I work as a professional in the food service industry in Australia. As a Chef we do not wear gloves unless doing something messy like marinating meat cuts where you may have to stop and do something else on the fly (in which case it is quicker to remove said gloves than to go to the wash station to clean your hands).
We don't wear gloves because we practice proper hygiene and gloves can in fact impact this. When you wear gloves you cannot feel what is on them, you might touch the onions, the onions might leave moisture and allergens on the gloves and you can't feel they are there. some one comes up and asks for their burger sans onion due to an allergy, you might omit the onion from their burger but you still touched the onions wearing those gloves before. Gloves promote cross contamination. I prefer to eat where I know proper hygiene is being exercised. Are you going to change gloves every single time you touch something? It is easier and safer to wash your hands regularly.

Well if you notice as well a lot of places don't. They allow you to see which is nice actually. Then you can see if food is dropped or spit on.

What about restaraunts? They don't wear gloves at all. Give Bruger King a good review actually.

Plus the County Health Department already knows. They have secret shoppers come in and inspect places like that. They HAVE to comply with health standards or they would not be open to the public.

You aren't going to pick up someones DNA by them touching your meat. It's a little more complicated than that.

Clean hands don't require the use of gloves. I'd be more concerned what fell out of their nose or mouth onto the food. They should be wearing paper masks for that purpose. Yes, they should be using tongs to pick-up the meat if for no other reason than to preclude the customer gagging at the thought that someone touched their food.
*****
If it was raw meat to be cooked anything that transmitted from the hand to the meat would be obliterated in the cooking process.
*****
Ecoli is the transmission of feces to food. This could be accomplished in various ways through the process of the food to your mouth. The most devastating way in fast food is by people who do not wash their hands thoroughly after defecating. Totally gross. I personally have witnessed this in a Burger King and I do not frequent that particular restaurant any longer.

If you witness this foul practice in any food establishment immediately refuse the food and never return. It is your safest defense. If you're serious about what you witnessed report it to the health department in your local area. Document the time, date, address, and the situation. After several complaints they may investigate.

Good luck

What is worse than that is when the maids and cleaning crew at my hotel (and ive seen this a lot of other places!!!) dont change their gloves between tasks. Its like they dont even understand why they are wearing them! So gross. Or the guy at the taqueria who makes the tacos then collects my money then makes someone else a taco.
But seriously, most chefs and cooks dont wear gloves, they just wash their hands A LOT. Its the gross fast food and line cooks who should be wearing gloves, and changing them regularly. People are nasty.

I think that is because at Burger King they insist that the employees wash their hands after going to the restroom. In the other places they may not enforce that rule and as a result they make the employees wear the gloves. You can imagine the DNA etc that the other fast food joints might get on your food.

I just started noticing this myself within the last couple weeks or so. I had a BK near my new job, and was going almost every day. Every day it was someone different making my food, and nobody had gloves.

The food they touched went directly into my bag without being cooked.

At a former job at a nice upscale deli, I wasn't required to wear them, but we also washed our hands constantly. The only time I had to wear gloves is when I had a cut on my finger.

At my restaurant I only wore them to handle raw chicken OR bread fish or shrimp. Lots of handwashing. I'm surprised that after all these years, I haven't washed my hands OFF! :)

Probably the same reason OUR local burger kings hires and allows employees to have chewing tobacco drip out of their mouth, run down their chin and into the food they are preparing !!

THATS JUST PLAIN FRICKEN WRONG!

WE NO longer patronize any fast food Establishment due to their lack of training in their management department !!!

It's not their DNA you should be worrying about, it's all the germs left after using the bathroom. They are not the brightest or cleanest employees, but that's what you get for $6.00 per hour.
I do not eat at any fast food restaurant.
