Religion is a crutch for those people too weak or scared to take on board the fact that this is it. This is life.. there is nothing else... once your dead its over... No angels no god no happy ever after.. if you havent achieved it here it aint happening... and they just cant cope they have their little book of fairy tales to lean on and tell them what to believe and what to do.
The thought of actually making a decision for themselves and being totally responsible for it scares them witless.
more to be pitied than punished.

Why do you assume people who have faith are weak? You live in the "land of the free" because millions of people were willing to die for their belief in freedom.
Right now people are dying for their beliefs.
Men women and children brutally tortured for their faith in God. All they had to do was renounce God and the pain would end. But they refused.
That is not weakness. That is strength.
During the reign of Elizabeth the first hundreds of thousands of Catholics were murdered for their faith. Hung until unconscious. Then taken down, tied to a table and dismembered while still alive. Then their arms, legs and head cut off and put up around England as a deterant for other Catholics.
Yes. That's weak. Why not just renounce one's faith and live happily ever after under a dictator?

It isn't a weakness to believe in something beyond yourself. It takes a great deal of courage to stand for something you believe in. It also doesn't indicate a lack of personal opinion or an inaptitude to think for yourself. Not all people of faith are zombies who follow dictates blindly, many of us are people who through a long process came to know the Truth. If someone is living according to their faith they will treat people with grace and kindness.

No one has a mind of their own. Somewhere somehow you were influenced by someone or something. The fact that you say "Simply treat others as you wish to be treated" - that comes from the Bible. Why not believe in it?

Everybody believes in something! Even your statement of lets just have "treat others as you wish to be treated" is a belief...and that's okay! Our beliefs are exactly what helps us make our priorities, they give us direction and purpose in our life. They are certainly not a weakness, they are strength that give us the ability to stand for something.

Why are you so weak (perhaps not confident enough in your views) that you feel the need to talk about religious people as if they have no intelligence? Many of us (in all religions) are smart people who have reasons for believing what we believe, and do have opinions of our own. I'll also point out that many religious people enjoy learning about much more than their religion. I am one of those people. If I sheltered myself and never learned anything outside of my religious beliefs, how would i know why I believe. I would be believing only because others do.

I have an opinion and I exercise it when I say I believe Jesus is God. I got my opinion based on study and not because someone simply told me to believe in something. Ans yes, the golden rule is always a great thing to practice. Keep on!

Why does believing in "something" make ME weak? At least I have "something" that works for me. I'd rather believe in this "something" that I believe in, than to fall for anything. Some people have nothing and that's my opinion that I came up with all on my own. Have a blessed day!

Gee- that is what Jesus told us to do. :) I don't consider it a weakness to believe in something. I consider it reality. We as humans are not perfect. We have weaknesses and faults. That is just fact. If the human race is all there is, there is no hope in that. Hopelessness is not a good state to be in. I much prefer to have hope in my God. He is the answer to society's ailments. He offers a solution and a purpose in life. Real or not, He does provide hope for many people. Hopeless people do horrific things.

Its finding a place where you are happy, and content. If you like being a bully and it makes you happy, then they do it. But church related-it makes you a better person.
