Psychologists suck. Don't take it the wrong way if any psychologists read this but it depends on you.

Psychiatrists are a real medical doctor and can listen to your story and give you medication.

A Psychologist is not a doctor and did not got o school nearly as long. Psychologists uses psychotherapy to try to help you and cannot give you any medication.

Sometimes seeing both helps, the psychologist to talk about it and the psychiatrist to get medication.

It depends on your problem. I had a severe chemical imbalance which left me in the ER and a psychologists could not help me only psychiatrist. I had an appointment with a psychologist and they referred me and it took months.

However, some research has shown that psychotherapy may be as effective as the medication for some disorders like mild depression.

However, if you have a severe chemical imbalance talking cannot help that and you need to see a psychiatrist.

Hope this helps.

A psychiatrist is a medical doctor who treats the biological causes of mental illness, by prescribing medications etc. A psychiatrist doesn't have a lot of training in psychology. A psychologist isn't a medical doctor, but has a PhD in psychology and uses several psychological treatments in treating mental illnesses & personality conditions, such as counseling, behavior modification or whatever appropriate techniques apply. In some states some psychologists can prescribe medications as long as they have the proper certifications & under a psychiatrist's supervision.

A psychiatrist can write prescriptions, they are an M.D. A psychologist however has great training and gives you much more time and attention than any other doctor, usually helping to find the root of the problem. They have a Ph. D.
