I have some pretty bad trust issues because of my past (romantic and otherwise) I know they exist and normally i am pretty good about reigning in my fear, but lately i've been quite bad.
It's very hard on the guy that i'm dating because he's done NOTHING to ever make me not trust him, he's brutally honest and is very sweet to me. I hate the fact that sometimes my distrust hurts him, and is now beginning to really upset him.
I need to find a way to trust him before i ruin this.

thanks for all of the answers so far.
I have spoken to a counselor, i have post traumatic stress disorder and have for years.
He and I do talk about my distrust, mostly when it's an issue - he understands that i've been burned but it hurts him because he's done nothing and trys to be careful about it and to him it seems like its not getting him anywhere - i am trusting him a little more but still its VERY little

You are insecure and there is no magic fix for this. You just need to realize, which it sounds like you already have, that this behavior is gonna ruin a good thing. Change your ways before he starts to think he cant take it anymore.

Therapy with a licensed psychologist may help you. Sometimes it helps to hear from a neutral standpoint on whether your take on things is normal or out of whack. If someone is going to cheat on you, there's nothing that you really can do to prevent it so there's no value to being distrustful. You have to give the other person the benefit of the doubt until they do something tangible that would make you lose your trust in that particular person. Some guys are trustworthy and will never stray and others will stray no matter how well you treat them and no matter how pretty you might be.

I am sorry, I know how you feel. I have an issue that is similar and I too have a trust issue. If you know that he is honest, know that he will not hurt you in anyway. Try not to think about the past or about past hurts, he has never hurt you.
I hope that you can get past how you feel, so that you dont loose what sounds like a great guy.

I wish I could tell you how to fix it, but I obviously do not have the answer, because my ex-fiance' had the very same problem. She just could not get past this whole trust thing and it finally got to the point where I told her I was not going to live under an umbrella of suspicion and doubt for the rest of my life. I told her goodbye. It is too late for her to fix it now, I now have a wonderful wife that I adore and she trusts me completely and that is nice.

Just have faith. If he's never givin u any reason to not trust him well then it should be no problem. Just take things slow and eassy and enjoy your relationship with this honest person. Im sure it will last if u just have, trust, honsety, and communication. Those are the 3 keys to a relationship.

It sounds like you already realize he's trustworthy. You just have to pull that out of your subconcise mind and into you conscience mind. When ever you start to not trust him, stop yourself and take a moment. Ask yourself, why don't I trust him? He's as honest as a guy can get. You have to be really careful. It sounds like you don't want to mess this relationship up.

Yeah you do...cuz you sure don't want to lose a good thing. Try not to think so negatively and you are like me once bitten twice shy but just try to trust him and don't make him pay for the mistakes ur past boyfriends made...Good luck

You just have to have confidence in yourself. that's the first step. I used to be like that but I learned to love myself and everything else just kinda fell into place. You have to make your mind trust him. Know that if you don't, you may lose a good thing.

That's a hard one to deal with. I don't know what to tell you, except let your boyfriend know that you don't mean to be the way you do, it's because of the past. Tell him that by all means, it's okay for him to let you know when you are being way too jealous or paranoid. It will be a way for him to check you before you get too extreme, and it will be a good way for you to check yourself and find out when you are doing this.
